Nokia N96 announced

I'm fairly sure all Nokias are maxed at 320x240. The iPlayer was debuted at 480x320 (iPhone) so this is good news for Nokia owners, but not an advancement for iPlayer. I find video at the double (480) res ok for a bit of bed time watching. I think half that res would be... Half as good?
It's swings and roundabouts: the N96 has iPhone-beating features like a proper keyboard, an infinitely better camera, expandable memory slot, swappable battery. none of that jailbreak nonsense and an FM radio (yes!) while the iPhone has a much better screen, more intuitive interface, prettier form factor and longer battery life.

A 320x240 screen isn't great, but it's fine for watching the news and short clips.

I just upgraded to the N96. I had to give Carphone Warehouse some shit as they were insisting I go up to the £45 a month tariff on O2 to get it free. I threatened to cancel and go with 3 and they put me through to loyalty who agreed I could stay on the same tariff. £35 a month with 600 anytime mins and 1000 anytime texts. Free internet up to 200mb per month too!

It is being delivered tomorrow and I cant wait! I'll try and post a review after using it for a few days :)

The adverts have stepped up a gear too, making the phone look quite nice. Shame about the lack of qwerty though but it is a nice looking phone.

Well after using it for a full 24 hours I must say I am very pleased. Have not really used it that much but it is a solid phone. Nice and quick between menus and accessing applications/photos/video. The stereo speakers are a nice touch and are LOUD without distortion. Really nice, clear screen too.

Someone in the office has a N95.

I'd never seen one before. Thats a technological brick and a half. In a few years time, head to a land fill and you can build a house out of N95's.

Harking back to the good ol' days.

Some folks reckon the N85 is better than the N96. They could be right.

That's interesting. It's certainly hard to see what the differences are:

Other than the N96 having more built-in memory, and a slightly larger screen not much.

I don't know why they mention a "super-snazzy camera" as giving the N96 an advantage - they seem to be identical?

How have N96 users found using the camera, specifically is there a lag when you first turn it on and what's the shutter speed like?

 For an 18 month old phone that still packs the best feature-set on the market, it's really not that big. Unless you have tiny pockets of course.
