Nokia N95 8GB

I dont get this it takes a 950mha battery, yet I've got 3500 mha aa's rechargables that I use in my headtorch, which cost less then a £10 for 4. Why dont smartphones come with better batteries? I'd rather put up with a little extra bulk and had a phone that took a single aa and I'd be able to carry a couple of spares.
Smartphones use expensive battery technology and there's a constant battle between form factor and battery life.

(My Treo 650 could pack an awesome 2400mAh battery, but there's only a 1150mAh jobbie in the wee Centro. )

I guess Nokia thought the N95 was already quite chunky and a bigger battery would both increase its bulk and its already considerable price.

That would be my guess... and it's one of the biggest selling phones ever, so guess they made the right choice.

Battery life is perfectly acceptable on the N95 8GB. 2 days is enough.

Whats different about the smartphone battery tech and that in a Nimh aa? The volume of them has to be about the same.

Depends what you need it for, and whether the battery life/feature list trade off is worth it.

True. Out of intrest is that 2 days using the mp3 player/gps function a lot? Just think when your paying that much for a phone it should come with a better battery.

MP3 player for an hour a day, max. Maybe 20 mins of HDSPA web browsing a day.

It could never be sold on it's battery life, but then I'm never far from a charger. If use it with TomTom I just seat it in it's dock which charges it.

i have found that if i turn off bluetooth and wireless discovery on the phone , and just use it as a phone and none of the stuff then the battery will last about 3 days. that said i have just recently installed ngage on it and so have been hammering the games lately. some of them are indeed pretty cool. the camera is really nice. i think thats its best feature atm. have put a couple of other films on but really cant see watching films on it really. the news now and then possibly or web brousing.

ide say i use it for games web and the odd picture.
i have noticed since filling it a little with apps that it can be a bit laggy. anyone else noticed that.

also is it installed with a 8gb micro hd or is it flash memory? must check that out right now

Would still highly recommend it. Superb phone.

It actually gets supplied with AV leads so you can play Spiderman 3 in HD on your telly.. pretty bling, but kinda pointless.

Nothing the Ipod Video hasn't done for years. And the QVGA resolution is a third that of 'high-definition' - it'll look good on the phone's small screen but linked upto anything bigger than a portable sized tv (especially being that it's via composite) it will look a bit lacking.

I'm tempted though - it's not bad priced on 3 and mobile Skype/Messenger acess etc would be great. Not had mobile for about a year (last phone was a Nokia 6280 on 3) so one of these would be the business.

Aren't 3 fundamentally a cunt's network because you get good deals at the expense of your friends/people you know?

Last time I checked connection charges to 3 are substantially higher than any other network.

Word of warning, if you think battery life is bad to start with, wait till you run those! Eats through my battery.

If you do go that way though, Fring is rather good, combines both in one programe.

Thought all the operators just had prices for calls/texts to either your own network or "other networks", no differentiation between them.
