Nokia N73

He had loads of problems with the phone freezing, crashing during calls, not receiving texts etc.

there were problems with the v1 firmware which have apparently been sorted by v2 (Nov 2006) - though the kid in the orange shop told me that of all the N series the N70 is the only one that works as intended.

Mind you I have an N70, great for satnav but shite for txts and calls:mad:

What proportion of those Blackberrys belong to people's work though?

Everyone I know with a BB has had it supplied by their employer.

(Hardly a statistically rigourous argument, but there you go).

I think you're view is skewered, if that were true why are there so many Blackberries in circulation? They must be doing something right that the Treo isn't to be selling so well...
My view is simply my opinion, based on a fair bit of experience with phones.

The Palm is the best OS I've used for a smartphone, and - guess what - a host of independent surveys have also reached the same conclusion (see Palm thread for examples).

But if something better came along, I'd switch.

Provided by work on the basis of their IT departments? Surely they must know a thing or two about smartphones?

i got my N73 in late november 2006. i've not had any problems with it at all. no freezing, no disconnecting during calls and no non ability to access contacts etc. the only thing i do notice is that it takes a few seconds to disconnect from a call at times. hardly a reason not to get perfectly usable phone but then i'm used to nokias.

Cheers all for contributions so far.

I must say, I'm still leaning towards getting an N73. Not least because I know my way around a Nokia (even if it is pretty vintage).

I think the key is, yes, there have been lots of problems with the initial release firmware of the N73 - I have an angry friend (known as, natch, Angry Dave) who is constantly cursing his N73, but never follows up my repetative "take it to an Orange shop and get them to upgrade the firmware" suggestion.

Having said that, he just got back from a couple of weeks in Tanzania, and the photos it took are really, really good.

You could wait for the N95 as suggested, but unless you have a high monthly call spend, you'll probably have to shell out quite a bit for it. It's listed at £630 quid out of contract at expansys, so expect to be asked for a couple of hundred quid for it.

Because they are given out free by corporates... I've tried one or two of them and they are primitive clunkers (although amazingly reliable) in comparision. They're also amazing when they're linked to (corporate) email correctly, but unless you're some social obsessive with your personal email you're hardly likely to bother...

Yep, if the thing's not crashing the photo quality is very good, way better than my Treo.

Hmmm. Maybe I need to get some software for it or something

Does take good pictures though.

I've always had Nokias - just happened that way, I have no complaints so far.

Just got a new contract (T-mobile) and went for the option of keeping my current phone(6230i) but paying £10 less a month for my contract, which means my monthly bill will be around £12/month with free calls evenings(6pm to 6am)/weekends and 50 free txt messages, which I was happy with.

I don't like fancy phones - the simpler the better, as long as it has a good address book and a long battery life :)

</end of pointless derailment, just wanted to tell everyone about my new contract> ;)

Heh, the irony, I just ordered the N73!

A repost from the other N73 thread:

Just ordered mine! Figured what the hell, need a new phone, don't really want a bulky smartphone at the mo and want something with a good camera. I already have a 1gig mini sd card so that means the phone has cost me a grand total of £5.99 for next day delivery!

And if it pisses me off I'll be unlocking it to sell on eBay (they go for around £200)!:D

After all that, I got a Sony Ericsson . Sorry everone. :o :)
It was a better deal from O2, really. 700-odd texts, 5 hours talktime, 1 gigabyte a month downloads for £25. And I must admit I'm liking the predictive texting on the Sony.

Wayhey! Synced it with Outlook was a piece of piss as was hooking my laptop up to it to surf (using the phone now as a modem  )!:D

i used my m73 to surf initially, it is pretty good, only problem was , i was being charged a fortune by vodaphone:mad: usually my bills vary between £30 and £45 - my first month £117:eek: so i only surf if i really really need to

Oh right, I'm on T Mobiles web n walk so no problem as its unlimited (a lie because the 'fair use' policy is a gig a month)...

i always used nokia's until i was offered for free the limited edtion treo 750v.......bloody excellent, my 6280 is just collecting dust!!!

I've always had Nokia phones they've always served me well and have with stood falling in rivers, being left outside in the rain, dropped in gutters etc. I'd only by a nokia or sony when it comes to phones (apart from apple).

I'd really like a new phone but I don't need one!

mmmmmmm check out the Nokia Aeon.
