Nokia N73

the button

out on the kocker
Just about made my mind up that this will be my new phone.

Unless any of you lovely people can tell me that there's massive problems with it that a luddite like me wouldn't know about......

Ta in advance.

Its a good phone :)

The only "problem" is that the N95 is out soon and is better, but then again, there is always something better on the horizon...

Hmmm.... I'm just wondering if that makes it worthwhile holding back for a bit, to get a better deal on what would be an "old" phone.

Mind you, I'll be monthly paying, so the phone's free anyway.

We had this at work recently, very nice phone, nearly got it myself until I heard from someone about random freeze ups etc. Never have had a Nokia, there's something cheap about the build quality on their phones and find them too basic...

You might get a slightly better contract if you wait, but that will always be the case and i don't think an extra month will make a *huge* difference.

The phone suffered from a few clitches to begin with - slow and hanging up, but Nokia seem to have fixed these with the latest firmware updates.

Basic is good for me. I had to have a go on my mates' N73 to make sure I could still work the predictive text. :o

i've had a n73 for a few months now, great phone, camera is great (i'm even messing about with the camera and using it like a camera, rather than just snapping, i've come over all david bailey:o ) haven't downloaded any music, there is space for a load of music but i have an ipod so don't need to, surfed the internet for a while until i got my first bill:mad:

pretty easy to master, it did all make sense after a while, i did what any bloke would do, refuse to read the manual, and just mess around until i suss it:D

My nephew's got it and he's had terrible trouble with it crashing all the time, but maybe he's just got a wrong 'un.

can't remember having any problems with it crashing tbh, might have led to a cheaper phone bill if it had crashed all those times i used it to surf:(

When you say "crash", is that when you're doing something fancy like surfing the web on it, or summat? Or when doing normal stuff?

tbh all I'm going to use it for is texting, phoning and maybe taking the odd pic.

Eep.

Fairly basic stuff then.

Hmmm..... the mrs has got her heart set on an N73 as well.

Now.... do I tell her about the problems and risk some phonebased domestic discord, or go ahead and get a couple?

(I should add that I'd be getting two N73s -- one each).

I know, I know.... nobbing & sobbing forum that way ----> ;)

 Aaaaaaaargh.

I've got one and it's a pain in the hole tbh. It started off great (the camera's excellent, big memory etc etc) but it does crash; a lot. Sometimes it gets itself going again immediately, sometimes you've to turn the thing off and on again and sometimes you've got to take the bastard battery out. It's most recent 'glitch' is to refuse to call direct from the phone book. So if you want to do something as advanced as make a phone call, you've got to go into contacts, memorise the number, then come back out and dial

The bastard thing drives me up the fucking wall

Mrs FA said it would be a nightmare and I should get something sensible but oh no I had to sign my life away for 18 cocking months to get a decent camera on a shit phone. And there's twat all reception where I've just moved to

Apart from that, they're great :D

That's the problem with investing in the very latest phones with all the gizmos and widgets - they're far more likely to fuck up.

I'm happy using my comparatively ancient Treo 650 and it's the most stable smartphone I've ever had - by miles.

I like the features on the phone, but it's a fair bit bulkier than I thought it would be.

Have you handled one?
Yeah, I had a play on my mate's N73 in the pub, just to see if I could work it really. I like a gadget with a bit of heft myself. Although -- come to think of it -- I don't think I did the "fits in top pocket of denim jacket" test on it.

For a bit of background, my current phone is one of those primitive, wood-fired Nokias that everyone used to have.

No upgrade for 3 years, T-Mobile twats.

My mate has the N80.
Had the above problems and more for months. Bloody nightmare. Finally directed to Nokia repair people in a local Time 2 Talk shop by Nokia Head Office and all that was needed was a bloody software update because the N series of Nokia's don't get on that well with the Orange sims! Thanks for telling us Orange...

Now THAT is good to know -- was thinking of changing to Orange.

You can I think....just need the free software update. Now you know about it, you can get the update straight away and not be left for ages with the phone being all weirdy. <<< technical term. :D

I'm with Orange. never had trouble, like em lots.

Just had a look at it, and it looks way too technical for the likes of me. :o
To be honest, you'll probably find it easier to use than the Nokia. It's a really, really easy phone to get around.

And if you stick with T Mobile you can get their unlimited data deal.

Unfortunately, I am but a pawn in my better half's desire for an N73. :(

"This has been a public service broadcast on behalf of Palm Inc"

:D

I think you're view is skewered, if that were true why are there so many Blackberries in circulation? They must be doing something right that the Treo isn't to be selling so well...
