Noise cancelling headphones

The Sony WH- CH720Ns are going for £75 on amazon now... they're the workhorses I use for work and when I'm out and about.. decent at muffling general noise... and decent sound quality.

I've just replaced my Sony XM4s with XM5s. Sound quality and noise cancelling are excellent. Slightly more comfortable than the XM4s.

I had a pair of XM5s sprung on me for my birthday on Sunday to replace some XM3s that have lasted six years and were still doing fine really, although looking very tatty around the ear pads. I agree the new model is more comfortable. I really like the way music pauses when you take them off. It’s fantastic to be able to switch off the fuckwitted ear tapping controls that were only ever triggered by accident.

I am not sure I’m detecting any significant difference in sound quality, to be honest. They are still clear and bright without being too cold, if that makes sense. The noise cancelling is definitely different, they are now much better at eliminating persistent noise in lower registers and less good at dealing with sudden intrusive higher registers. So they would be absolutely perfect for trains and tubes (neither of which I ever use, or am likely to use again) and they should be great for shutting off hoovers and fans, but they might be slightly less handy than their predecessors at blocking off shrieks of childish delight, or that one irritating colleague in a small office (again, not something I have to deal with any more).

What is this 360 audio nonsense meant to be about? As far as I can tell, nothing has been recorded on it except for some live concerts, which always sound terribly anyway, and a few random pop songs by minor artists. Yet it dominates the bumph that comes with the XM5s.

No - I agree sound quality isn't much different. Noise cancelling is even better!

Have had some Bose Quiet Comfort phones for a couple of months now, amazing things, just turn the things on and even with no music or owt coming in I can't hear the inane whibblings of my family

Just bought Earfun Air Pro 3 earbuds. Thought noise cancelling was way out of my budget but they are incredible for just over fifty quid. Life changing, I was getting murderous on my commute with all the people now blithely subjecting you to their tiktoks, poor taste in music as well as obnoxious children.

Does anyone have recommendations for non bluetooth noise cancelling buds? I need them for hospital days and bluetooth don't work because of the machines I'm currently wearing silicon buds but due to sensitive hearing can still hear beeps, etc. I basically want to be deaf for 6 hrs every 4 weeks. It has to be buds cos I can't put headphones on once I'm wired to the transfusion machine

You may struggle to get something like you've described for normal money.
I'd look into earbuds with excellent isolation - so they completely block your ears from external noise and maybe use a pair of ear defenders over them that can easily be removed/put on or over the transfusion machine if possible.

Bose used to make a wired version of their QuietComfort buds, but unless you can find somewhere that still has stock you’d be looking at second hand, and they weren’t cheap.

Other than that… I dunno. The world has kinda gone Bluetooth.

The alternative would be a normal wired set of buds and play around with different rubber tips - a decent seal in your ear canal should give a significant drop in background level.

Try ear defenders/over ear headphones over the top of earbuds if you can't find wired ones. Memory foam replacement tips can help create a better seal too.

Mostly the wired ones I can find are sound true or sound sport coming in at £40 or so, off to read reviews.
