No BT line, what to do?!

There is no way around the £125 if you want ADSL service. (Unless you live in the City of London - I believe there's an alternative provider there. And I don't mean any bit, just the City.)

Or Kingston-upon-Hull :)

This sucks so hard.
I have read reviews on 3 mobile broadband and it hasn't got the best reviews, + 18 month contracts etc. various issues. I have a nice laptop and wireless ipod, and nowhere to frigging use them! I will be in cafe's I think fattening up on latte's, thing is i've got freelance work coming my way and will need to work properly, cafe= not ideal... Pah.

If your going to earn some cash from it then pay the 125 quid for the line. Its seems like your being overly cheap.

pay 125 and then get it back in vat duh!!!!

You'll need to pay for a line to be installed or ask your landlord to do it? Unless there's a cable point in the house you're donald ducked.

go for virgin media. You dont need a phone line of any sort as it all comes down coax not a phoneline..........

They didn't charge me when I had one re-connected in 2005, even though it required an engineers visit.

May have changed since of course......

Yup, think it's a recent change. We ordered a bog standard analogue line at the office in early 2006, it cost £125 up front but this was refunded after a year of use. Did the same thing again a coupla months back (and this wasn't even new copper, this was lighting up an old and abandoned one) and it cost us £125, no refund. All because of OcCom, of course.

Support your friendly local monopoly, they wuvs you really. And wuv hurts.

I just spoke to BT customer options 0800 800880 and they offered me half price connection for £62.50 and they will let you spread it over 5-6 months. I know it's still expensive but it will be worth it for me to get rid of Virgin.
