Wasn't Taxi on in the early to mid 70s? I'm 44 and don't remember ever seeing it or even knowing about it until that Jim Carrey film about Andy Kaufman came out.

Plus, it's gonna be nice having a show with Danny DeVito in the final round :p

We'd sit around in our divey rental house, spark up a number, and watch Taxi. :)

Technically, Sunny can still go through, but Taxi (assuming Malcolm and Seinfeld win) has already got like twice as many votes in a few hours as Sunny has in two days, and I can see the second runner up coming from round three :(

  13. DaveCinzano

DaveCinzano WATCH OUT, GEORGE, HE'S GOT A SCREWDRIVER!

It ran in the States 1978-1983. The BBC's Radio Times ‘Genome’ site indicates it ran on BBC1 from 1980-1985.

    E.g.

First season second episode ‘One-Punch Banta’ search results

Final season final episode ‘Simka's Monthlies’ search results

It had the Kauffman "simple immigrant innocent" as another American comedy maybe 5-8 years later. Two unlikely flat mates, one was Eastern European. Might've been on c4 in the afternoon on a Saturday? Anyone?

  16. spanglechick

spanglechick High Empress of Dressing Up

Found it. "Perfect Strangers" ran 89-98.

Am I missing something? Was Kaufman anything to do with either? Wasn't it Bronson Pinchot from Beverly Hills Cop?

  18. spanglechick

spanglechick High Empress of Dressing Up

No it was. I'm just suggesting Balki may owe a creative debt to Kauffman in "Taxi".
