Nikon D40 low price dSLR - review and chat

If it's the same screen as on the D80 it's a real beauty. It makes a lot of difference to your ability to be able to evaluate the shot on the screen.

With a decent sized sensor and good image processing, 6MP is enough. Of course, if you've got the money, the more the merrier.

I don't think you can really go far wrong buying any Nikon DSLR. If you've got specific needs, you'll know what to get. If you haven't, whatever you buy will be a great camera. It's all good.

Played with one of these yesterday, very nice. Feels a bit limited somewhat and is very small, built like a tank though. Not quite sure what it would be like with a big lens on the front. Menu system and display on it are fantastic. I'd pay a little more and get a D50 or a D80 myself if I was in the market for a new camera - largely because I find it too small. It has much of the same internal gubbins as the D80 and the D50, colour matrix II and all that jazz.

I'm tempted.

Right now, and for the near future, I'm taking a lot of baby portraits. My best digital camera is a Sony-V3, but its lens is limited in low level light. Right now I have only a few hours of useable daylight, have to have all the blinds fully open and then pray he doesn't start squirming too much! I'd really like to be able to change lenses and use a prime.

I work hard, have a steady job, it's about time I finally got a DSLR!

Does this lens look sensible? NIKON 50mm F1.8 AFD
I'm more than happy to manually focus when using a prime.
