Excellent effort!

I know Nike are only in it for themselves, and their 'charity donations' are pretty weak.

However because they have so much marketing clout behind the event, it means lots of people get involved who don't normally run, and for lots of people it is a first step to getting more active or taking up running.

I did a Nike 10k about 5 years ago as my first ever race and I thought 10k was an impossibly long distance to run, and was absolutely terrified on race day. Now I'm a bit of a running addict and have run lots of 10ks, half marathons and a marathon. I think its fair to say I'd still be a couch potato if RunLondon hadn't kick-started me in the first place.

If people come out of the event with increased loyalty, it is more likely to be towards running than towards Nike.
