Nick Griffin elected MEP for North West region...

they've been doing that since the 90s, but it is just fact that a couple of their top members and a load of other members have been caught by the police trying to make bombs. (and that one guy who set off a few bombs in gay bars)

no matter how good they make their image they can't get away from the facts of their criminal links and activities

They don't need to. As recent events seem to suggest.

Copeland left the BNP condening them for not being extreme enough btw.

Do people just type any old shit they can think of about the far-right? Do they not think they need do any research as ha ha they're all skinheads? Hasn't this idiocy been blown up by the last few years?

I don't think the feelings of inner party members has changed, just hidden beneath a veneer.

Voters, know that's a different story.

So how many of you actually checked the figures:

2004:
808,200

2009:
943,598

Overall, yes, but the BNP actually got fewer votes in the North West (where Griffin won) at this election compared to the last one.

The reason that he got elected there was that the Labour vote collapsed.

Labour supporters need to realise that pandering to racism doesn't win votes - it just legitimises racism (why vote for closet racists, when you can vote for [semi-] open ones?}.

Accepting that there "need" to be controls on immigration panders to racism.

We really need to open up the debate on "no borders" and explain why people should be able to live and work anywhere that they want to.

looking at the pictures of the Griffin meeting in barnsley, the audience seemed very 'normal' indeed, in fact it was that meeting when i realised that yes they will gain seats and progress

Thinking that there need to be immigration controls = pandering to racism!?

Christ on a bike, this is exactly the kind of sentiment that sends people screaming from the ("no-border") left to the BNP.

"Open up the debate" - pffft.
I get the distinct impression that this wouldn't be a debate, but a monologue.

Happy to have a debate.

Are you in favour of closed borders or open borders?

Tony Mac publicly confronted Griffin over his claims that the rebels were Nazis. “I have a picture of you in Scotland with Blood and Honour giving a Nazi salute. Do you deny that?

“If you do then it’ll be in the Sunday papers.”

Griffin looked on in silence, his face creasing up in horror.

“Ok,” said Tony Mac, “it’ll be in the Sunday papers”.

One day perhaps?

What's your point?

Nearly forgot to highlight this:

The meeting did continue, minus a few of the heavies. Collett meanwhile had decided that the fire escape in mid-December was not a place to hang out for too long and slipped back into the room. All credit to the young man, he had found some confidence from somewhere, though of course others would have described it as stupidity. He called a reluctant Dave Hannam up to the front of the room and to Dave’s horror he announced: “Me and Dave are not paedophiles.” I wanted to burst out laughing, though fortunately there were plenty of others to do that for me. “We had gone out with a big group of lads and these two beautiful women cracked on to us,” he continued. “We didn’t know that they were only 15.” If he was thinking that this chummy explanation for events in Blackpool last year would turn the crowd in his favour he was mistaken.

So what - 2 and half years on they've got two MEPs, 60 plus councillors and a London Assembly Members - what the fuck use do you think exposing the fact that NG did a fascist salute at something in scotland in 2007 is going to do now? jesus christ.

Piss you off.

What do you see as the difference? Are regulated borders open or closed to some? If the latter, on what basis?

Regulated borders are closed to some of course. Any talk of open borders in the near future is simple wank fantasy. You'd require a simultaneous weakening of border controls worldwide and that's discounting the fact that climate, resources and varying levels of general prosperity will massively distort the movement of people.

Having worked for the Immigration "Service" I can tell you it isn't fit for fucking purpose. It's not practical to even have a sensible debate on this with regards to the UK until the Borders and Immigration Agency actually does what it says on the tin.
