Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds UK Tour

and we finally got our tickets! ray! :)

trouble is, the friend we're supposed to be staying with in brighton is incommunicado at present....:hmm:

Very :(

Trouble with trains, planned engineering works, so we set off afterwards. But then got to the station and all the trains to Brighton had been cancelled - still not clear why, summat to do with a broken down train. Well according to the station staff - but that's not what the internets says.

Whatever, no trains and no way of getting down there :(

Nope :(:(

We rang round a few friends that live in Brighton to see if they wanted the tickets, but no-one was around. We weren't near an Internet cafe to freecycle em.

Decided to make the best of a bad job and had a nice meal out instead.

:(

hard luck mate, the journey we had was pretty awful but we did make it.

we got to victoria at 4pm, nipped in for a quick pint and wait for the train at 32 minutes past. i took a few sips, looked over at the departure board and an announcement says its cancelled. we necked our pints sharpish, jumped on a packed portsmouth train and spent 90 minutes getting to gatwick. broken rail at purley apparently (how can one broken rail on one line bring the whole of the south-east train service is a mystery to me).

I phoned our pal in brighton and asked him to check how/whether trains were running from gatwick to brighton. he called back and said there should be about 4 an hour, so we jumped off at gatwick and luckily a lewes service arrived about 10 minutes later. only just managed to squeeze onto this and had a squashed 40 minutes until we reached brighton.

you might want to look away at this point cesare. cos the gig was a brilliant, could have gone on all night and i wouldn't have moaned. very very tight musically, nick cave was possessed and really looking like he was having a ball, they did tupelo and the mercy seat  plus a good few from recent bad seeds releases. a very very slick but electricifying set overall, well worth the earlier hassle.

even the fact that our tickets were right at the back in the seated balcony - which was bollocks that, we bought ours ~3 months ago, a friend buys a ticket on thursday and was further forward than us, and you could buy walk-up standing tickets on the door on the night but they wouldn't let you exchange the ones we'd bought for those either. ah well, lot of bother but i'm glad we persisted in the end.

Ah, we were at Blackfriars at that time Paulie (4.20 ish). So we'd have had to then get to Victoria and then buy tickets - the station guy said it was possible but his description of what it involved sounded , specially with my ankle thing going on. Plus detour to dump our bags at the B&B and walk (limp in my case) to the Brighton Centre. So we gave up gracelessly :D

We had a very nice evening though instead, luscious meal out, and the B&B guy didn't charge more than his booking fee - was really decent about it. But I'm still £90 odd quid out of pocket and I know it sounds miserly but I'd like to try and get some compo out of the train company ... I bet the 'broken rail' would have been fixed quicker on a commuter weekday.

But, perversely, it does make me feel better that the gig was so good, and that you and others had such a great time despite the hassle getting there.

I've just stumbled across Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds playing in the studio on Radcliffe & Maconie's show right now, if yer interested. (-Or there's probably Listen Again later, of course.)

They sound fucking great, anyway.

I was there at Brighton, had a bit of a mare with the trains but just needed to get to Surrey to get a lift with others.
Really great gig, my first with Cave.
Sat on front row on the left bank.
Was quite cool just sitting back and gazing over the band and crowd.
Nice light show too.
Really enjoyable evening, especially when I didn't really know all the songs.
I can see why the ladies love him - quite a physical presence on stage and some
witty banter with the crowd. Good stuff.
