Does the existence of immigration controls now guarantee the provision of decent, adequate housing for those migrants in the UK now? Or for anyone else, for that matter? I had no idea.

I didn't say it did, but how would having completely unlimited immigration help that? Unless you are proposing to tarmac over every bit of countryside left?

I don't want a serious and considered debate on immigration. I want a serious and considered debate on housing, employment rights, job security, pay etc. When do we get to have that?

If you want a cosidered debate on Jobs and Housing or Education. Do you seriously imagine that you can ignore immigration?
Absorbing so many new people in a small country is having a major effect on all of the issues you say you want a considered debate about.

Maybe people prefer banging on about immigration because it's a damn sight easier than actually addressing the issues. And some people are quite happy to let the right set the boundaries of debate and work within that. Happens all over.

In the mouths of the government, "Let's have a serious debate about X" = "Talk about X while we do what the hell we want". Iraq, Iran, immigration....

And if they ever *do* mention the right to council housing it's used as a stick to make racist assumptions about *asylum seekers getting all the housing*

The politicians and media couldn't give a stuff about the lack of affordable housing in the rental sector otherwise.
