Newcastle United 2007-2008 thread

I don't know about Shearer coming in on this. In some respects I think it might be a move to lance this "shearer Boil", like, "look we,ve offered him a job if it doesn't suit he can't complain". For his own sake he should graciously say "it's not for me right now". I reckon that's what'll happen. I don't think it'd be in shearers own managerial interests to be a kind of "enforcer", cause I reckon that'll be the role offered. I don't know whether the myths about Shearer pinning Ginola up against a fence are true but i bet he was a bit of a twat in the dressing room.

Mind you a couple of years ago I was in the John (or is it David) Lloyd centre up at Paddy freemans and the entire Newcastle squad were there along with Johnny wilkinson. Shearer looked pretty much like just one of the lads, no "big man" aura about him at all. I guess that contradicts what I just said.

He does seem a good bloke.Mick Martin is a family friend and he invited my mother and I to a Dunston Fed talkin in with Shearer,Rob Lee,Barton and Beresford.Shearer came and sat down with us for 20 minutes or so and I was quite impressed with how it was just like talking to a fan straight off the terraces. Not sure if I'd like to be on the bad side of him in the dressing room though.I've heard a few tales that make him sound like a monster :)

There was that time he lamped Keith Gillespie, and the following Tino quote gives you a good insight into what he was like.

(regarding Shearer/Clarky/Batty and a fire extinguisher) I was in my hotel room and I saw them take the fish-eye out of the door, so I went to have a look and... hissssss... By the time I opened the door, they'd all run off. If I'd have caught them, I'd have hit them... I don't know what would've happened! So I ended up kicking the wall instead! The next day against Arsenal, my eye was all red... well, we lost. But at Newcastle it was all the time. If you left the restaurant, they'd put salt in your food. At night, I had to block the door with the cupboard and the TV so Shearer didn't come in and throw water on me."

If he does get involved with the club, I would prefer it to be with the youth academy, can't see it though.

Mick Martin gets around. His daughter did Irish Dancing with one of my kids. In fact she was the model for a kind of figurine trophy that my daughter won 3 of at different competitions. I bet there's not many who can say I have 3 of Mick Martins daughters on my fireplace.

Sounds like bullying rather than "high jinx" don't it

LOL I see him almost daily, normally outside the post office.Once he gets talking.......During all the media scrum last week I saw him on the pitch at St James and it was the first time I really looked at him as the high profile player thathe was.He was always my stepfathers mate never a footballer. At my stepfathers funeral all my mates were like "Whoa, have you seen who's here ffs".

Glad i started this thread, learning somethings i didn't know before. :)

Skunk, you saying you see Mick Martin almost daily? Sorry im feeling like drifting back to sleep atm so have to ask to check, lol.

Yes correctomundo. He's lived in our village for years.Quite a few old Toon players have over the years.Newcastle used to own about 4 houses just up the road.Gillespie was a regular in the pub and lived just opposite where my in laws live.Mirandina lived just along the road and Chris Waddle still owns a house on our estate too but he rents it out. This was all when they weren't millionaires n shit. They all live in Ponteland now :)

Where's that Skunkboy?

Was anyone out in toon last night? Jesus christ, the stereotype that geordies are thick as fuck is so true.

"Whey its canny good result, like. We didn't lose, that's King Kev, that man! Am telling ya, we're going to win the league."

i know what you mean , i think the difference is they played or tried to play better football , especially in the 2nd half , i've been a season ticket holder for a canny few years and the fekin bandwaggon jumpers where out in force yesterday , so i totally understand where your coming from on that one .

anyway we need a good midfielder who can split the defence for Owen , Martins to run onto that's what we're missing at the moment .

Yeah reg thats true. And its the media who spread this shit about the dream team being keegan/shearer. They've basically forced this to happen. I dont remember even thinking them two being there before they started saying it, im happy with kev there tbh.

Shearer admitted that he had spoken to Keegan and they would be meeting agian as soon as possible.... MOTD sat even.

Shrewd move by Keegan, if it all flops... he has someone to point at.

For Shearer, a managerial experience opportunity. If he's as bad as the rumours, it could make or break his ambitions.

The spiteful pranks point twards more than just bullying.

You're not suggesting racism are you:eek:

BTW, Nigel walker lives up at Whickham don't he? He plays cricket with my mate. Teacher in Lanchester now.

NUFC thread is a good idea. Can't believe no-one has set one up already.

What does K-man need to do to turned the club round? I reckon the big issues are:

1. Get Ashley to stump up money for some big signings. At least six are needed - I think about £50m would do it. Time is runmimg out for Butt, Duff and Viduka.

2. Mark Viduka. Ain't making the contribution you'd expect - what motivates him?

3. Ditch Barton asap - he is just a big waste of time. But how to get rid of him?

4. Michael Owen. He doesn't exactly love Kev. He's struggling to meet expectations. Should K work with him, or just sell him quickly?

5. Alan Shearer. He's in the club, he wants the job, he can't have the job. Big soap box on his tv slot and via the press. Can he be persuaded to fall in behind Kev? If not, how can he be silenced?

6. Fans expectations. How to get people to calm down?

Oh and i hope keegan does what dennis wise did with his squad at leeds, and uses an 'everyones against us' attitude to motivate them once we bring some quality in.
or rather gets a decent assistant in to give him tactical advice, as Dennis wise did with gus poyet, look what Leeds have done since Poyet left. "them and us" only gets you so far.

^ true. Skunkboy said Wisey was going up to newcastle though, i never knew of that but Wise might be getting involved in the newcastle set up somehow.

Why would Keegan want Wise? what's the connection? are they secret mates?

I dunno, ask skunkboy he saw the rumours somewhere and apparently he now saw them on the sky sports website or something, cant remember. Maybe he's the kinda person newcastle need, wise could give them a kick up the arse that is badly needed.
