Apparently there's quite a bit of cloak & dagger goings on about this !

    Dear Comrades
We are sending you an emergency motion for the Annual National Conference of Trades Union Councils and all the background information for you to understand it, but we expect it will be ruled out of order by the TUCJCC, you may wish to put in another emergency motion on the same subject, the more the better?

Malhotra Holdings gave Newcastle TUC £237,500 for a building the labour movement gave Newcastle TUC £42,500 to buy in 1986 that is a 630% profit, and this amount was given to house the first TUC Unemployed Workers Centre in BrItain. Newcastle TUC closed down the centre without consultation.

The Memorial Hall Trust in Wallsend North Tyneside has been given a chunk of the £237,500 for allowing a banned TUC Unemployed Workers Centre and Newcastle TUC to have an office in their premises, even though North Tyneside TUC have demanded Newcastle vacate North Tyneside and return to Newcastle.

The TUC Organisation Department, the TUC General Secretary, and the TUCJCC have let off Newcastle TUC scot free, we could not say for sure that they have received bribes from Newcastle TUC, but we believe they fear Newcastle TUC would use monies to mount a legal challenge against the TUC.

    Chair North Tyneside TUC

Is this not old news? I thought the Centre Against Unemployment closed down two years ago (they were trying to raise money for repairs before they shut) and they first moved to the GMB offices and then went in with Unite Community at Broadacre House in the centre of town (where they offer a much more useful service and with loads more volunteers than they used to imo) - and Newcastle TUC meetings have also been at Broadacre House recently. Kevin Flynn used to be employed by Newcastle TUC CAU i think, and then was a volunteer or on the steering committee or something. He's done a lot of work helping people particularly around industrial injuries, vibration white finger, asbestos, etc and unfair dismissal, redundancies, etc but he's also got some shit politics - saying that unemployed people and other groups who aren't in paid employment (carers, sick and disabled people, stay at home parens etc) don't have "revolutionary potential" so there's no point organising with them, only helping the etc. And at one point he had people doing workfare in the CAU office (arguing it was a nicer option for people even when we passed on all the Boycott Workfare stuff).

Also, there might be some financial skullduggary going on , but this whole "North Tyneside TUC bans Newcastle TUC" is bollocks and the kind of thing that turns people away from union/left wing politics.

Basically its an acrimonious power dispute between the CP and (i think) the WRP or whoever KF is affiliated with

Are the libertarian left, possibly wobblies not involved and caught up in all this somewhere ?
There's been several letters of protest and appeals for support sent around nationally !

What are Kevin's politics; which faction of WRP is he affiliated and/or sympathetic to and how does that play with CP ?
A Guy in CP at our Trades Council was quite vehement about not supporting motion for appeal, whose usually quite good and calm about these sort of power struggles !
Someone else mentioned, afterwards it was a power struggle against individuals sympathetic to Lib. Left & CP TU bureaucracy etc. etc.
This could be mistaken identity as quite a few elements of old WRP (e.g. Workers Press/Movement For Socialism/International Socialist League/United Socialist Party) flirted with Anarchists e.g. RTS; links, friendships, affinity may have ensued !

I don't really know what's going on; there's a lot of Chinese Whispers going around, for example the knock on/domino effect that the case in Newcastle might lead to and/or encumber !
That's why I posted on here; with Kevin's permission to publicly post his emails !

I'm not too sure of all the details - I just know KF from doing welfare campaigns and that. He may very well be friendly with one or two libertarian left types, as Newcastle is the kind of place where you end up with weird political friendships -and the CP are not exactly endearing to a lot of people!
Its obviously shit that the centre was shut down.
What might the domino effects be?

Other resource and unemployment/employment centres funded by TUC !

e.g. Brighton, if its still going Leamington Spa; although that is a bit more pragmatic !

Who is wanting to shut down the centres - is it CP there too?

Apparently according to email from K. the Unemployed Workers Centre in Newcastle was closed down without consultation with Newcastle TUC & in a very cloak & dagger; bureaucratic manner ! People, mainly Greens, have also commented that premises and other resources were/are being considered to be sold off to private sector !

However, as others have reprimanded me about this; it's just one side of the story; however cannot assess any real reason why this was done in such a 'behind the scenes' and bureaucratic, unaccountable way !

From what I gather and the protestations in support for this action to sell off premises, it appears to come from CP, hangers on & Labour 'Left'(joke)!

Like I said before, I don't really know what's going on and apart from emails and contact on internet with K., this is mainly based upon rumours and comments & motions at meetings made hundreds of miles away, in the South !

    K. seems reluctant to comment on his political affiliations, so I'm not 100% sure who the side making the complaint are to be honest; however several people in my neck of the woods have mentioned that the Wobblies are involved somewhere in this debacle !
