Gloves.

I might go out without my helmet, but never without gloves.

I currently have 2 pairs of cheapo Aldi Ski-ing gloves which are hardly waterproof at all unfortunately ...

Another vote for gloves - if your hands get too cold or wet you won't be able to use your brakes.

Even if it's hot, still wear gloves if poss - grazed hands are a bloody nuisance and more painful than you'd expect for something so minor.

what about overshoes - I've been thinking about this as my feet are
getting wet so much lately?

I don't know about overshoes, but you can buy goretex socks.

I've placed my order now, and I got:

-Helmet
-Lights (SMART)
-Locks (big fat D lock and a cable lock)
-Bag for bike (when folded)
-Gloves
-Panniers and rack
-spare inner tube and puncture repair kit

Other half has got allan keys from his bike, pump comes with bike and clothing I'll buy elsewhere as I need it.

I'm sooo excited - I've to wait about a month though
