Robster and I share quite similar tastes, those are pretty much my own favourites. Funnily enough, the pink fire escape is actually one of Skim's. I'd assumed it was my own until she corrected me, I've now added the credit.
I took a lot of shots on the subway but the man behind the bars is the only one that works. It's already a major crop, I'm attaching a full version below. While I agree that ideally both his eyes should be visible, I'm less bothered about these kinds of details than I used to be. With candid street photography I think a bit of rough/imbalance is fine -- just doesn't feel right to try too hard for studio/posed type perfection.
Surprised you like the wheel, Firky. I almost didn't include it because it didn't feel too original. Always interesting getting others' points of view.
People vs. objects/shadows/textures is almost impossible to debate, sort of apples vs. oranges, just totally different. Often I find buildings and details make for more aesthetically pleasing photos, but they feel rather cold, easy and unoriginal. Whereas people, especially candid street photography, feels challenging, ephemeral and rewarding.
