New Unnecessary Remake Thread.

was based on the Philip K Dick story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale. Moritz described the Dick tale as "prescient".

was it really now Moritz? Wheres all the false memory implantation clinics then?

9. 'The Great Escape.' Not a remake has been made so far, thankfully. And who doesn't watch it whenever it's on and still be willing Steve McQueen to make it over the border?

I take it you missed the sequel, then.

10. '1984.' A somewhat offbeat choice this one, I admit, but it was Richard Burton's last film and certainly one of his finest ever performances.

So what forms of heresy or apostasy might the preceding (big and small) screen versions of Nineteen Eighty-Four be filed under?

I was hoping to gloss over the travesty that involved that bloke from 'Lovejoy', to be honest.

And I really like both the versions of '1984' that I've seen. Although it's always a good debate as to whether Richard Burton or Peter Cushing did the definitive portrayal of the vastly sinister O'Brien.

I was prepared to give it a go, DW could do the role, make it bit diff from WM - but Travolta playing it that way is...wrong. Totally wrong.

Well, it wasn't Peter Cushing - he played Winston Smith!

I haven't seen the earlier version in many years, so I stand corrected on that one. I shall go on Amazon and see if I can dig out a copy to go with my old VHS of the John Hurt version which I really like and may watch again later.

And the sequel to 'The Great Escape' was, IIRC, having watched it only once, was as excrement is compared to cream.

Whilst the internet is not necessarily wholly representative of life in general, I suspect one would readily find more websites enthusiastically centred around eating shit than in praise of The Great Escape 2.

The taking of Pelham One Two Three. With Denzel Washingtion in place of Walter Matteau and and John 'one good film every 30 years' Travolta in place of Robert Shaw's hard as nails leader.

Fuck me it's the "8den agrees with butchers, once a blue moon" thread. The remake is by Tony "less classy and more explodedy brother of" of the Scott brothers.

The original's low key, and brilliant charm seems to be replaced with attack set pieces that look like someone has ripped off Die Hard 3. I mean the crucial plot point of the original was a
very plausible, car crash, this looks like some absurd monstrosity"

Word is they are doing 'Clueless - The Class Reunion' this year. Not exactly a remake but the first one was enough surely. Why did Alicia Silverstone's career go nowhere after that film:confused: I think she is really pretty:cool:

because she cannot act.

It gets silly.,

I just read that Russell Crowe is playing The Sheriff of Nottingham, a 'realistic' take on the Robin Hood myth in which the Sheriff is caught in a love triangle with Robin and Marion.

How fucking shit does that sound?

And it's being directed by Ridley Scott, who hasn't made a good film since doomsday.
