New statues

How long though, until the great man is found to have said something, in common usage seven decades ago, but not used now?

Larkin was an arsehole in many ways and wrote (in private) some very snobbish and racist stuff and his statue in Hull has been vandalised but apparently only by pissheads trying to climb and swing from it. Betjeman will not pop up on anyone's radar.

Don't be silly. I'm not riled i'm just being annoying. He said that if anyone deserves a statue its Turing, and thats why he thinks the statue of Turing is not crap.
So any statue of Turing would be good, in his view. Because its not about the thing in itself its 'having a statue', as a mark of respect.
Idk how you can see any other interpretation of that, but you carry on.
Deserving a statue is not necessarily a measure of respect but a measure of significance A statue can be a reflection of power, for example a statue of Edward vii in Delhi. Not surprised you can only see one way of interpreting a statue.

ok so you posted it because you think he deserves a statue. Because a statue is the highest mark of respect or something, not because of anything about the statue itself. ok.
It reminds us how shit we were, and if just one person per day walks past it and reflects on that, it's making the world a better place. That, in my mind, makes it a great statue.

Very good. Maybe that’s what Saul meant, the statues good cos of how it shows Turing’s powerfulness.

Past my bedtime.

Have no statues? Thats fucking depressing bullshit. There are people we should honour and remember that arent cunts. They can be educative as well as celebratory.

Louisa Gould is my choice. Absolute hero.

Pleased to see there is now a statue of Sylvia Pankhurst too. Did not know that.

Have we had Diana Dors in Swindon yet?

I don't know what that means, well judged.

I don't how to put it well in words but you might get some sense of it through comparison, eg Paul Day's pound shop Martian lovers in St Pancras vs Michaelangelo's David or the Royal Artillery Memorial at Hyde Park.

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away
They could put that on post cards, cheap biros and snow globes of my statue that would be sold in the gift shop located in a retail space in my gonads.
