New Stadiums

Have you got a nice shiny stadium, is it better?

We've had murmours about redevelopment or a new ground for years. Hopefully the relocating idea has finally been given the boot now, but even so, I don't really think there's anything wrong with the ground we've got. We just need a roof over the Stratton Bank end really, and while that's used for away supporters we don't even need that.

No, Highbury had undoubtedly a better atmosphere than the Emirates.

Lol. Highbury never had an atmosphere.

Highbury is a library is what Cardiff sang when we went there and we weren't proved wrong. Not a peep was heard by the home fans for the whole time.

When Cardiff when to the Emerites it seemed much more exciting. Even if half of Arsenal still left early.

i'll be honest, i've had shit experiences at all the new grounds i've been to as far as match day experience is concerned. madejski = crap, walkers stadium = crap, cardiff city = crap, wembley = crap, pride park = crap, st marys = crap, kassam = crap. the millennium stadium was decent as far as new stadiums go, but i've yet to visit a new club stadium that didn't leave me cold.

Saw the Chelsea v Arsenal Charity Shield at the Millennium Stadium. Great stadium - great noise when you're inside - the only 'modern' stadium I enjoyed.

My other team (Reading) have.

Its undoubtedly a better stadium, although more of a hassle to get to. So yes an no. From what I've seen of new stadiums, fans seem to be placed more distant to the pitch than the old ones. So you do get a bit of a loss of atmosphere. Eg (Highbury vs The Emirates)

having been there as an away fan, it´s a pain in the arse getting to and from Reading´s ground

we only rebuild ours, so Portman Road is still 5 minutes walk from the train station and right in the centre of town, which is great. On the other hand the atmosphere has never been the same since they redeveloped the North Stand.

Seeing old pictures of Highbury always brings a tear to my eye, it's like seeing a picture of a dead lover.

The Emirates is a superb stadium which we're immensely lucky to have but it's just not the same for me.

Rebuilt three of the four sides, moved the stands closer to the pitch. Can be an intimidating place to other teams now, but as the standard of football has dropped so has the atmosphere.
