New socialist and independent groups

Anybody know anything about there "Boston By-Pass Independence Party"?

They won control of the council last year, wiping out all Labour and LibDem councillors. They have been accused of selling out, and are now disowned by the Bypass Pressure Group.

So when we have got a list of all the new left groups, will we be inviting them to work together in a United Front or will it be a Popular Front? The difference is crucial and we should be told. Or is the idea just to line them all up in front of the wall and shoot them so as to give free reign to the true Anarchists.

The aim is to improve socialist/libertarian politics around the country and network, making what 'we' do more powerful. Rather than isolated and picked off, subject to local decline when 'burt ordinary has twins' etc....

The United Socialist Party

Look at this lot of independent socialists in Liverpool - they have their own socialist party. Rather than seeing unity as something which is fought for within the mass movements during class struggles, this lot announce UNITY in their very name and founding statements:D

But seriously, deep respect for these former dockers who should be invited into any new working class formations from the beginning;

Politics is a public activity

aye, i bet it'll make MI5's job a fucking synch! we can assume that they at least casually monitor the site, if not post on it. would making a comprehensive list of new, local groups who opposed the status quo not play right into their hands?
This makes a fair point, but I think that if what the various small political groups are doing is aimed at the public, it will already be in the public domain.

Part of the really big problem with politics as it is at the moment is that ordinary people are excluded. Keeping it secretive reniforces the same pattern of alienation and perpetuates it. Each of these groups, if they want to stand in local elections and such, try to get representatives on the council or make a difference at that level will have to fill in election forms, provide details of their accounts to the election authorities. After the election, the people who voted for them can be identified.

Really, the need is to get out there and to convince the voters. This is a public sort of activity. If you try to do that, your party or campaign group will be subjected to public and media scrutiny. You need to have a stronger belief in what you are doing. I think the advantages of openly publicising the groups are greater than the disadvantages of their being surveilled by the spooks.

Certainly this from Socialist Alliance http://www.socialistalliance.org/ is thinking along similar (note, but not 'the same') to what I am thinking;

BRIEF REPORT FROM THE LEFT UNITY MEETING SAT JULY 5th 2008

ORGANISATIONS PRESENT;

The Socialist Party; Alliance for Green Socialism; Walsall Democratic Labour Party; Socialist Alliance; Labour Representation Committee; Green Left; Revolutionary Democratic Group; the United Socialist Party; Alliance for Workers Liberty; Respect; CPGB (observers); Left Alternative (observers)

WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS

Pete McLaren, Nat Sec of the SA which had called the meeting, welcomed comrades to the meeting and thanked them for attending, outlining how this meeting was almost certainly historic in that never before had 12 different left groups/unity projects met together to discuss ways of working together more effectively. That was an achievement in itself. He added that it was essential that something tangible came out of the meeting to take us forward towards the long term goal of a new left party.

INITIAL DISCUSSION

After everyone had introduced themselves, Gerry Byrne (SA) took the chair, and began by asking that those who had submitted Papers speak briefly to them. There then followed a wide ranging discussion where each group present explained where they were at in terms of the need for left unity, what the barriers to unity might be, and how they thought we might be able to work together more effectively. There was general agreement about the need for working class political representation now that Labour was finished, and that a new left / green-left party therefore needed to be built.

PROPOSALS FOR ACTION

After a short break, the following proposals were put forward:

Intervene at the Manchester Convention of the Left
Produce a Joint Statement in support of the public sector strikes
All organisations (except LRC and GL) agree to avoid electoral clashes
Ask the LRC and the GL to consider whether there might be some way they could contribute to a clash avoidance agreement
An accounting function – each organisation to submit a brief statement about where it stood on working with others, and on the question of a united left party – and what problems or issues it could foresee. A draft would be produced from contributions which would be circulated.
We form a Left liaison Committee to have dialogue on the process as it unfolds
Groups commented on these proposals.

THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS WERE AGREED:

Produce a Joint Statement in support of the public sector strikes – Gerry Byrne (SA) to initiate and circulate
Each organisation to discuss internally, in the light of this meeting, its position on cooperation and unity with other groups, including what barriers there might be. Organisations were invited to send in written statements on this – to Pete McLaren, at [email protected] before the next meeting.
That we discuss becoming a sort of liaison committee to have dialogue on the process as it unfolds – the next meeting on October 11th to consider this, and to see where we all stand as agreed in (2) above
It was agreed that this next meeting on Saturday October 11th, would be at 1pm at the Lucas Arms. The timing would enable discussion to take place after the Labour Party and TUC Conferences, and the Manchester Convention of the Left

Was the Attican Praxis Movement not invited or did its member refuse to attend?

Autonomous Class War will have to have a national meeting to decide whether we get involved.:)

Is a national meeting of Autonomous Class War one between Don Attica and his bathroom mirror - or do I (Sancho Praxis) get invited too?

The members of Autonomous Class War are legion - we do not have an orthodox application method of membership. You are a member if I like your politics:D so that includes people like Ian Bone and Dave Douglass.

You're incorrigible, my liege. Some say as how you's mad - but I'm still hoping for that island you promised me.

Does he know he's got a girly name? :p

Do those two know that they're members? I bet they don't.

I'm a bit worried that ACW exists only in my good knight's imagination.

A) Pinky my dear, we will have the whole world to choose from. Tonight we are going to do as we do every night, try to take over the world...

B) ACW should be seen as a tendency rather than an organisation, it is also a little known and not posted on often blog on myspace, and it also has a magnal - Mayday.

BRIEF REPORT FROM THE LEFT UNITY MEETING SAT JULY 5th 2008

where did this come from?, i didn't even know about it/heard about it, the left however constituted has to get its act together, people on here go on about the BNP, but other small parties of the right are growing, gaining support such as the English Democrats, etc.There really is no time for egos, etc.

Exactly - that's why this thread was a good idea and sectarians and ultra leftists (IWCA) wanted to ruin this thread.

It came from here;

It's the smallest left, the remnant of the SA. That's why you didn''t hear about it -i t means and is fuck all. Stop looking at the left. The answer isn't with the left. You've got to make your mind up treelover.

It is still far far far far far bigger than you (1 member of Bristol IWCA) :p and it does constitute a more realistic way forward than the whole of Oxford IWCA (the national IWCA).

12 left group delegates in one room to talk collectively is a good progressive way forward - you have no alternative Big Arse:p

BA, i just want someone to start speaking up and working for and with, the old, the sick, the poor, disabled people, single parents, elements of youth, etc, etc...that to me is more important than
any ideological purity, political stance, however sincere, i sometimes feel physically sick on hearing about how vulnerable people are being treated

But it's always the old left that you want to do it, that you think should so it. Each new venture your heart beats that little bit faster. It isn't going to happen. That left is dead. The w/c is what's left. That's where we have to start from again, not trying to fit the w/c into 19th century hairshirts. That means palcing w/c needs as understood by the w/c, not by those who think it's their historic mission to speak for the w/c at the centre of what we do as a basic confidence building starting measure. Stop dilly dallying - the left you want is dead. It killed itself via identity politics and roman coins. Cut the strings.

Full of shit BA. Its far far far far far healthier than you and your imaginary Oxford IWCA.:p
