New Series of Mock the Week starts tonight

Mock the Week is pretty rubbish, for the reasons I said originally. But Frankie Boyle does often make me laugh even within its contrived rounds.

Mock The Week is barely amusing at the best of times. It's not a patch on Have I Got News For You and its only saving grace is that it occasionally has good comics on who get to do a bit of their set during the 'spin the wheel' section. However, even a passive comedy circuit follower knows the routines off by heart before the comics do them.

To try and make it look like the whole thing isn't one big scripted 'gameshow' doesn't work. The show is so crudely scripted it makes Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive look impromptu panel quiz comedy genius. They should just bring back The Stand Up Show and be done with the quiz bollocks as a platform for comics.

And Frankie Boyle is an unfunny cunt.

I thought it was alright, got a laugh out of it anyway and it's better than a lot of shit thats on.

I think this is about right.^^

Can't understand why anyone wouldn't find Boyle hilarious though.

People in different opinion shocker.

Mock the Week is far funnier than HIGNFY which has long past it's peak. It's like watching an old dog try to get up and waddle over to the dogbowl. Hislop is occasionally mildly cutting to the token MP guest, but is enough of an old school tie type that it negates any credibility his contradictory politics might have. Paul Merton just does the same thing every week while the guest presenters range from the bland to the ridiculous, all delivering the same joke week in week out.

The only problem with Mock is that Frankie Boyle needs to let other people speak once in a while. He's funny, just not ALL THE LIVELONG DAY! Is he the producer or something? I also think part of the reason people dislike it is that it's clearly heavily edited as the rounds must go on far far longer than they can broadcast.

^^^Frankie just gets left in the edit more I think. Like you say the rounds are well longer than what gets shown and they have to choose what to leave in.

Loved this weeks episode, especially David Mitchell in great rant form.

I get that people do not like the smugness but MTW, HIGNFY, PI and the others really the only things I regularly watch on the iPlayer

Woohoo, I shall have to go get it on iplayer :)
Whats with all the grumpiness, Frankie Boyles particularily good, Russel Howard and Hugh whatshisface definitely have there moments as does Dara.
Cheer up, its a comedy :)

At the risk of not being cool, trendy or not being a miserable cunt I'm struggling to laugh at Columbine High School Musical. Even for Frankie that was too near the knuckle. If you're going to be edgy then you have to come up with something funnier than the subject is controversial, and he seems to lack any self awareness (even with all the scottish jokes).

Eh, I enjoy it. It's not fantastic, but both Dara and Frankie can be quite funny at times.

That said, I thought Boyle's best line ever was in his stand-up gig - commenting on the Glasgow airport bombing. Something along the lines of "I love the naivety of al-Qaeda. For trying to bring a religious war to Glasgow. You're 400 years too late guys!! You've not even got a Football Team for Christ's sake..."

There's some good people on Mock the Week but the format is just dreadful. It doesn't seem to be conduicive to anything other than people crowbarring little pre-prepared proto-monologues in to places that they just don't go. If I watch it, I'm always left feeling dissatisfied.

I've never gotten the point of MTW. It's shit. Unfunny shit.

agreed, it's woeful. all these people waiting to butt in to tell some really obvious joke that any fool would make down the pub. they're supposed to be comedians, not drunk twits trying to outdo each other in the bar

It's a terrible attempt at trying to harness what was good about Have I Got News for You and Who's Line is it Anyway. It fails. On so many levels.

it's just jostling pricks going me me me me me

seriously, what tosser commissioned this shite?

telly is shit. mock the week is absolutely awful.

I concur

russell howard is the unfunniest twat ever , how the hell he has ever got gigs / tv shows is beyond me

I quite like Frankie Boyle tho

Maybe that says a lot about me.......

It's definitely one of the better shows on telly, though to be fair that's not saying much really considering the other shite that gets broadcast.

MTW is well past its sell by date.

Russell Howard is mediocrity personified. His lowest common dominator jokes(e.g the queen singing "Mr Boombastic" in her speech - roflmao!) couldn't make me laugh even if he tickled me with feathers as he told them.

Frankie Boyle is a highly skilled comedian but his "ironic" homophobia (anti disabled, sexist jokes etc) all too often sounds like the real thing.

Yeah, i must say I have a hard time with that humour as well. Probably says more about me than Frankie who I'm sure would argue he's not a bigot, but...

I think he's ace. A few weeks back on the "scenes we'd like to see" bit, they were doing bad things to hear when you're at work. Frankies was something like "Can you all stop stitching shoes for a minute, it's someones 11th birthday and we've got a picture of a cake...".

He was the funniest thing on it. I doubt it'll be worth watching at all now.

David Mitchell is good when he's on it but I don't like any of the others much. The bald bloke's painful to watch.

Dara?

He has a degree in physics
