What a fucking stupid day to open. Why can't they open on a Saturday when I'm not working.

(Wanted to get in there first and do a load of shopping whilst it was empty) :( :D

those places are always busy on the first day of opening
the other week i went into sainsburys in Crystal Palace and it was rammed beyond belief...turns out it was the first day and everyone in the neighbourhood was having a good sniff around

I went to that new Tesco on Streatham Place the first or second day it opened. It was empty. Went in there Saturday and it was rammed.

It's still crap as well, although they are now selling loaves of bread.

definitely agree with you han- there ain't no way that sainsbury's will compete with the grocers on new park road! - his veg actually have taste for a start...
it is a shame that something so characterless gets plonked there cos there's loads of money behiind it as well as fierce competition between chains- no surprise that after tesco another brand quickly follows...?

What is bizarre is that Sainsbury's took over these premises rather than the newly built spaces under Alexander Dumas (sic) Court.

Will those empty shopfronts ever be let?

Probably not as shops. Wouldn't be surprised if the owners go for a change of use and turn them into flats. They probably have to wait a while to prove there is no demand for them.

Precisely. A decent restaurant or bar would not go amiss either!

Agreed!

Gallery is nice though, the Portugese place...it does Take Aways too.... I frequent it quite a bit.

Apart from that there's nothing though...well there's the Telegraph  :D

I agree though...a decent restaurant up this end wouldn't go a miss. It's pretty irritating having to travel right down into Central Brixton or into Streatham Hill for a decent meal.

Now if only we got Marks and Spence Simply Food in those premises, we'd have the full set. :)

No, we don't want that up there. We want that in either the Petrol Station/Tyre Place on Brixton Hill, or the Tile Centre on Brixton Hill. That would be right handy for me

Jesus christ you people are lazy. There's one of the blinking oldest M&S stores in the country just a stone's throw away on Brixton High Road.

It's not just a walk, it's an M&S walk after all....

:p

Yes, and I go there regularly. I also go to the new one in Victoria almost every day.

You can never have too much of a good thing :p

We could use one down Loughborough Junction way

Phillips the butcher is great and the Halal butcher sells ok fruit and veg but the rest of the shops are rubbish - unless you want to buy booze or single cigarettes
Lazybones, there's a sainsbury's local at herne hill which is but a 2 minute cycle from the junction - and it's always good to have a reason to go past the Mahatma Gandhi Industrial Estate!

I hear those convenience stores on New Park Road are now the shining example of customer service. All smiles and all that shit. Must go up there and see if it's true and that one particular cunt that I'm thinking of can actually say something more than a cash amount.

But I don't cycle and it takes longer to walk to Herne Hill than to Brixton. I think that Sainsburys is pretty average anyway

Just had a quick look through the window and things are coming along nicely. Roll on Thursday!

Thursday? I thought someone said it opened on 2nd?

Shit/ The 2nd IS Thursday. I thought it was Tuesday. Must set up my calendar to a different view

just went past a while ago - no sign of humour!!

looks very nice though...

They took the last boardings down today it seems.

To reveal....

A cashpoint that doesn't charge £1.50 to get your cash!! Fuck yes!! *happy boy dance* :D

We all rushed home and went En-masse for our 1st visit :)

Cashpoint not working yet :(

Fajita's were ok though :)

Guinness NOT in the fridge :(

Was no where near as busy as Clapham Nth or the Sainsburys nr the Tube.

Once the Guinness and cashpoint situations are fixed I'll be happy boy dancin :)

They do bread, and lots of fresh loaves too.

The best thing is the wine, though. Plenty of nice wine (which was previously impossible to get at the top of the hill).

I'll still be using all the independent shops on New Park Road for everything else though (ie. veg, papers, milk, tins, ice, hippy healthfood)!

(Except sausages - they had nice sausages, too. And cheap fizzy water).

Yes, half an aisle devoted to bread type products :)

In that case I'm a happy bunny although if it's anything like the bread in the Sainsbury's in Victoria Street I won't be (rock solid loaves) :D
