New restaurant alert

Stig and I were in the new Noodle place last night before Offline. It's a bit more expensive than before (still reasonable though) and there's a somewhat fewer veggie options, but we both reckoned the quality of the food had improved LOADS!

Upstairs tables (we weren't there, but spanglechick, Agent Sparrow, wrysmile and their group were) are low, and you sit on cushions. Looked really comfortable :)

I think it was about fifteen quid for the both of us (we both had a Tiger beer) and I reckon that's pretty good value for what was well cooked, well presented, interesting food.

Some familiar faces among the staff, who are as friendly as ever, and a manageress figure who is clearly doing good front of house.

Really impressed with my prawn starter, and the sweet and sour chicken was hot hot hot.

A marked improvement, dare i suggest, though the downside is the prices have risen if you're eating in the evening.

you sure? i thought it was much the same, veggie-wise? it's just that instead of listing every ingredient with every sauce (tofu with black bean, tofu with satay, chicken with black bean, chicken with satay ad nauseam) they just listed the ingredients in one list and the sauces in another.

What's the best veggie restaurant in Brixton then? Might bring my brother down there next week.

the Lounge has some good veggie options (sandwiches/fry ups throughout the day) and a good selection of dips on the night time

It depends on how much you want to spend.

Mango Landin' is a pub and its menu is veggie.. but it's more stuff like grilled halloumi, thai curry, risottos that sort of stuff.

Bruno's is supposed to be nice and completely veggie, although I've not tried it myself yet.

Thing is most of the restaurants have decent veggie options so it's hard to say which is the best. It used to be Bah Humbug, which was fish and veggie.... then it became meat and veggie and now it's Moroccan or something?? Don't even know what it's called now tbh...

Bruno's is no longer around. Rosie's just inside the Market ja hop and a skip down CHL from the Albert has some nice veggie stuff and they make sandwiches etc to order. Very good coffee.

made it to the new Noodle Bar today for lunch and was very impressed.. a fiver for a decent sized bento box is pretty cheap, and unlike the old Noodle House the ingredients were really fresh and well cooked.

I'll recheck ... yes I noticed the separate sauces list ....

The food was nice anyway! :)

I know !!! Imagine wanting to be able to choose from an entire menu as opposed to having just one choice.... And denying meat eaters a restaurant in area where they are so deprived of finding a morsel of meat! :D Shocking!! What is the world coming to?

And in it's restaurant incarnation (used to be a menswear shop, then a record shop before) it has always been vegetarian. The guy with the lease is prepared to let it go for less than he could get elswhere so that it stays as a vegetarian restaurant. He's a principled man. He could retire by letting it go to the highest bidder and not caring what CHL gets in that spot. Fair play to him. Hope it goes to people passionate about vegetarian food rather than people passionate about vegetarianism. The latter tend to do very worthy tasteless beige sog.

To be fair.. there's very few places like that any more.. in fact I don't think I can think of any... purely veggy restaurants are really having to prove their worth over and above other restaurants in order to stay open. That's why you see places like The Gate having special "fungi weeks" with amazing mushroom menus in early October and Terre a Terre in Brighton winning numerous awards. After all, it's rare that a party of customers will all be vegetarian..... so they need to really push to convince the meat eaters that veggy food can be just as good - or even better!

Look at the menus of Manna, The Gate or Terre a Terre if in doubt! Although to be fair, my veggy friends an I do tend to have a bit of a laugh at the TaT menu which is WAY over the top!

And top marks to the owner of the Bruno's lease. I would like to meet him/her.
