well thats the cost to manufacture the cd. mark up isnt the same thing. my brother works in dvd production, he gets cd's for something like 23 pence.

Well it isn't the cost to manufacture if you can get them for 23 pence is it!

Well, that's the beauty of the deal they're offering you.
Trouble is you won't be able to decide how much you think it's worth until after you've listened to it properly, by which time you'll (in theory) have already paid to download it. I'll probably pay a couple of quid for the download, then if I like it I might buy the box set.

Considering they 'accidently' leaked Kid A and their last album (unmixed) online for people to download for free it isn't really a surprise, it also fits in with their ethos. Yorke went a bit mental after the success of OK Computer in a Waters and kind of way. How to Dissapear Completey is about his increasing alienation between himself and the fans. I don't think he likes being idolised or the success... but continues to do it because, well, it has made him and the band very very ruch.

But Floyd didn't abandon melody completely as they did for a while.

I admire their stance, the music leaves me cold. Its just bad prog now with 6th form global concerns, a bit like Marillion, who did all this direct to the audience stuff years ago.

Given that it was so cheap and an impressively bold move by the band to release the album in this way, is it then churlish of me to be peeved that the MP3s are only 160kbs?

It said "high quality" on the website - to me that means 256 plus.

Did you order the uber box set?

Sad thing is I will be waiting keenly for the FLAC or 320Kb rip from someone who gets the actual CD, even though I will have the download copy!

No, I can't afford it but I will buy it off ebay one day. I may even get it for free! I got Kid A for free and a lithograph of the artwork (signed) too, just a wee thankyou for doing the website... but the pleasure was all mine :o

I'd be gay for thom. Yes I would.

You sir, are quite obviously unfamiliar with AMR law, the 'biggest fan' is whoever posted there the earliest, everyone knows that, including 'KING ROBBIE' and that comedy racist he used to carry round.

I paid a fiver for it, i think that's more than fair. I love Radiohead, and am really looking forward to the album, but if i don't get anything physical i don't think it's worth more than a fiver.

Tangent - The hype that's been surrounding this release, and Trent Reznors recent move away from the clutches of a label have been hailed by the media as the death of record companies, but that'd be shit for new bands, as they'd rarely (exceptions such as Arctic Monkeys aside) be able to self-promote in the way that Radiohead or NIN can. Or, does big artists walking away from contracts encourage labels to have more respect for their artists? I can't decide on this one...

No email here either

I paid £2 plus 45p handling fee, but only cos I know I'll buy the CD when they release it.

That is a bit shit, I shall certainly wait until I can either buy a proper CD or bittorrent a decent quality version of it.

I used to like radiohead, thought they were just about the best of the 90s indie bands.

Then in 2003 I seen them live.

Blew my fucking head off. I am a wee bit obsessive now.

I think the words in my head the day after I seen them was "heavy metal jazz". Probibly means nothing to anyone else but that has always described them live for me.

I saw them twice that year, they were at the very peak of their powers back then i reckon. The 'hail to the thief' songs sounded much better live as well IMHO.

You posted on AMR?

Yeah, well, I had ran the AMR website init, and met Onionbob who is a fuckin' god :D

Yeah, way back when, I think we overlapped slightly in time period slightly, was it you who got the email from the white stripes record company or was that slumpy ?

Ah onionbob and his band, what they were called, sarin, zyklon b or something like that ?

Just got it. Have put on my itunes, ipod and burnt a CD for the office stereo.

I hear their talking with warners for a possible new record deal?
