new pete thread :D

True. Doherty's talent is debatable and he is a transient figure.

He wouldn't be if he kicked the bucket now, though. He'd end up being immortalised, despite having done preisely nothing to deserve it, and we'd all have to read endless laudatory pieces about his 'creative genius' for years to come.

Everything he has done might be irredeemable shyte, but at least while he's still alive everyone goes 'Oh, there's that coked-up waste of space trying to sing again,' and doesn't take any notice.

It would do his career the power of good if he were to die. Look at what death did for the careers of Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake. ;)

Afraid that would be the case. His reputed talent would be warped into some kind of perceived genious.

I'm not sure whether it's PD himself that annoys me or the vommotus fauning he seems to atract. I'm not just refering to the OP either.

Nick Drake wasn't immediately popular after his death, so maybe there's some sort of hope for PD yet.

True, but virtually no-one had heard of Nick Drake at the time he departed this life, whereas there's been no shortage of coverage of drug-addled wanker Docherty's shenanigans recently...

I can't argue with that. PD doesn't have his talent either.

Nick Drake had some modicum of talent. Slightly whimisical for my punky ears, but beautifully crafted songs all the same.

Problem is that Cheesy thinks Jim Morrison is another great poet like her Peteykins, 'n' that The Doors are great, so Arthur and his boys would probably blow her mind. :D

I just stopped in on this thread to confirm that

Kate Moss' b/friend is still alive
he is still a junky
some hate him
some love him
some don't give a dead junky's used syringe either way
he still doesn't have a killer song in his smack polluted body

All is as it should be. :)

i cant stop loving his music, his spirit, his words, his camaraderie.

Pete Doherty is a true rock star and i will stand as a loyal fan forever!

there is nothing anyone can say which will stop me loving him as an artist, and i believe he is, like Syd Barrett, in the purest sense.

i think i have a vantage point to comment on this, because i know my syd very well, and he is better than pete and the ultimate songwriting artist, IMO.

pete isnt that far behind though, in terms of the way he can enchants and captivate his audience.

If you like pete, show your appreciation here! :D :p

Cheesey I love syd but I haven't listened to any of Pete's stuff.

Where does one start?

yep, and she never had anything to say about him that a fawning 14 year old wouldn't. And she claims to be a writer too, and always goes on about Lester Bangs. Please Cheesy, if you're gonna harp on about the artistes whose names you have scrawled on your schoolbag at least have the decency to make a good case for them

Who the fuck is lester bangs????

He was a music journo and critic who wrote some of the most hilarious and insightful music journalism of the 1970s. The emphasis is on "hilarious", though. :)

There was a "best of" sort of thing published called "Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung" which is worth picking up if you see a copy on a charity shop shelf.
