New MOT Tests - introducing confusion from May 2018

Worse thing about this new mot business is if you get it done early and it fails you have to leave your car at the test centre as it will be illegal to drive even if you have a few weeks left on your old mot

Pure set up for dodgy mechanics to fail you and then rip you off as you are sans car straight away

What?? I’m having mine done tomorrow but it’s not due until Monday. So if it fails I can’t use it over the weekend?? Fuck that.

Actually you are wrong there, even under the old rules you shouldn't drive a vehicle after it has failed the MOT, as it's dangerous, and therefore you could be prosecuted, despite it still having an MOT.
I know this is an old thread but this is not entirely true, FWIW.

You can fail your MOT and have a roadworthy car that you can safely drive away.

For example it might fail on non-functioning headlights. It's roadworthy during the day in good conditions.

Obviously you can also pass your MOT and, immediately thereafter, have a car that is not roadworthy (as you identified).
