Grrrrrrrrr

I vote Indy, nuking the fridge is the new jumping the shark. Also, as crap as Hayden whatisface is, he's at least 31% less shit than Shia TheBeef.

The SW prequels were still bobbins, like.

While the new Indy was well below the original trilogy, it was watchable and not particularly atrocious.

However the Star Wars new films were absolutely hideous and the mother of all let downs next to the original trilogy. Ep.III is the most watchable and almost bearable, but Ep I in particular was an abomination. So I vote for Star Wars.

As a slight derail and thinking of other film sequels that don't live up to their predecessors, while Alien 3 and Alien 4 are clearly inferior to the first two, most peeps don't seem to have nearly as much of a problem with them as with the SW and IJ sequels. Perhaps it's because the much shorter time gap between them, or perhaps because they're not bad films in themselves...

I think everyone just forgot about alien3 and 4. Alien3 was not a bad film imo. it was a real let down after Aliens cos everyone was expecting carnage and we got this sort of weird thespy psychological film, but it was interesting in it's way. Alien4 was just cack and doesn't even count :D

Why don't they just make another film about the marines fighting aliens again. There was a brilliant comic called Colonial Marines which had some great battles between marines and aliens, sort of what the movie sequels should have been like, a few different planets and a few different types of aliens

They have recently done sequels to Starship Troopers, but they were (I think) straight-to-video productions. I watched about 10 minutes of Starship Troopers III and it was truly dire.

No doubt somebody will do Predator III before long... no aliens this time, just the predator vs. soldiers/cops.

I think I might watch the original tonight actually...

Starship Troopers 2 was fucking atrocious

I can't believe they let Paul Veerhoeven make any films except sequels to 80s movies tbh

It just seems so easy to me, make big silly action films about these monsters, don't add anything new, just have more monsters and bigger battles and we'll flock to see them

I rather enjoyed Indy, enough to probably get it on DVD. I already have the new Star Wars on DVD, but only because they came as part of a boxed set. Revenge of the Sith wasn't bad, but the other two films were just shit - especially the completely unbelievable romance and Darth Vader being a whiny teenager instead of someone with true darkness.

THat Indiana Jones film was absolute pants. I fell asleep halfway through. Lucky it was Orange Wednesday or I'd have felt skanked.

Paul Veerhoeven's one of the greatest directors - he had nowt to do with the sequel

I prefer Alien 3 to Aliens - much more suspenseful - Aliens was a bit too 'action' for me

except the bit when we finally get to see darth vader and he goes 'Noooooooo'

I think that was the best bit. Best comedy bit anyway. Crispy and I roared with laughter in the cinema, and then realised we were the only ones doing so! :D

Flippin' eck, I agree with you about a film! Aliens is so sheeny. I think it's a great film, but it wears out with repeated viewing. Alien 3 on the other hand just keeps getting better. When I first saw it as a 17 year old, I was like "this is shit" but now I really rate it.

re: veerhoenven - thats what i mean. he makes those films better than everyone, but his films when he isn't doing that sort of camp ultraviolent cartoony 80s thing are generally rubbish

he did showgirls as well btw :D

Black Book and Basic Instinct were great, Hollow Man and Showgirls not so great. I watched on his early rude Dutch films and that was rather good too - think it was Turkish Delight.

but really, fargo vs basic instinct?

come on. the only reason anyone remembers basic instinct is cos it was first class softcore with a half decent story

No, I thought it was a genuinely thrilling intelligent film - but Fargo is definitely a better film.

I can't believe people are still slating the excellent Indy 4! Oh god you're sooooooo cool aren't you? Oh look at me, I don't like the new Indy 4 or the new Star Wars films or I think the Da Vinci Code was poorly written cos I'm so god damn fookin cool!
