Camden what? What in Camden?

there are several places in camden that sell dr martens, the best of which (imho) is the one next door to the tube station, it used to be called "holts" but i think they changed name when the old fellah who used to run it, retired.

the british boot store.

Mine were ruined after glastonbury 98. They're sitting in my cupboard looking sorry for themselves but I think all the mud pressure melded them to a different shape to my feet. Somehow.

So where is this emporium situated and can it be reached from Hammersmith if one leaves that district after five?

camden town tube, exit on kentish town road, it's practically next door

not sure what time it closes though

Doesn't the Shelleys at Oxford Circus have a DM floor? Or is that long gone?

There is still a doc marten shop in convent garden. Although the last couple of times I have bought DMs in TKMaxx and Shoe Express

1 King Street, if it's still open. If it's out of your way, I'd probably phone first as they've shut down all the other shops in the UK and the website hasn't been updated for months. 0207497 1460

I've got to admit, despite all the gumph about 'air cushioned' DM soles, the few pairs of DMs that I've owned have been amongst the most uncomfortable pieces of footwear that I've owned.

The leather does indeed get softer, but I've always found the sole pretty hard and unsupportive to be honest, particularly around the heel. I'm less willing to endure them now my schooldays are well behind me, but they look better than they feel ime...

If you have feet under a size eight the womens DMs are made from a much softer leather and you don't have to break them in at all :)

(and they come in a range of natty colours)

<admires bright pink docs> :) :)
true true, got mine at glasto this year, needed no breaking in whatsoever :)

No I'm not. The half-hour I spend haunting round for a shot whose location I don't know could be the half-hour in whic it shuts...

If the covent garden one is where it always was then you turn right out of the tube station, down the cobbled road out into where the market bit is. if you keep heading right following the line of shops round the pedestrianised bit (or mainly pedestrianised) it should be within view a couple of right angles away. I cant rememeber if you have to cross any roads off the main bit of covent garden (one perhaps) and the building is on or near a corner and possibly glassfronted.

Shelleys at oxford circus is the South East corner of the junction. (not the nike town/topshop or H&M corner or benneton. is it still benneton?). UP some stairs. I think it's the top of three floors.

Apologies if my directions are utterly useless. :)

Ta.

I'm not sure something can be "in view a couple of right angles away".

:D Perhaps you should go equipped with a periscope?

Or, if you view the main part of covent garden as a square with the tube station off a little road at the top and the strand running parallel to the south perimeter. Erm. Then the DM shop would be on the western side of the square.... Don't take a compass tho as I've not checked my sense of direction recently.
How's that? :)

What I do is go down my pharmacist, and get stick on inserts that I put inside the boots in the areas where I get a particularly bad abrasion on my ankle.

Never fails.

Where, by the way, is a good place to buy these items in London? (That I can get to after work.)

Used to be a finishing factory selling cheap DMs in Hackney. Was just off Mare St on the right of one of the roads leading towards London Fields, possibly London Lane. Sorry can't be more specific but someone else might know it.
