ooh that's a really good idea. It's my most local of locals and my neighbours drink there - I'd be up for it! :)

Not yet, but I think the IT people are still working on things, so for now, I'm still here

Thank God :D

I'm off the booze. Will leave it to the Tulse Hill mob to show him SW2's favourite watering hole ;)

Can we get food at that quaint looking little west-indian place just down the the road from the hobgoblin? It looks ever so ethnic...

;)

Probably 'cos to think of both The 2 Woodlice and Mango Landin' in the same catch-all category of "pub" is a little confusing... :D

Why are you calling it the Two Woodlice  That makes it sound like it's an awful pub  :(

Do you mean the Montego Inn?

If so, I'm not convinced that any actual food is sold there - someone did do a long post about this ages ago. I think it's all a front for something. There never seems to actually be anyone in there.

No the montego inn is a pub... PM on it's way.

I mean the place on Tulse Hill opposite the big vinyl warehouse or whatever it is... The one that also doesn't look like it sells food... :D

It's what we call it around here to put people off in case it gets too popular. :)

Yes I know. I've called it that for years. But you only want to put off the undesirables (ie. The Albert drinkers), not the real Brixtonians ;)

i drink in the montego inn sometimes...the guy who runs it is very friendly. I've never eaten in there but i think tarranau has.

I think

There's the nice and spice.. that does bloody gorgeous food - best patties in Brixton IMHO - and is always busy. A little further up is lick finger, the one where you have to fight your way through a haze of smoke - actually next to the 2 woodcocks which also does very good food - but not very veggie friendly. In between there is a plethora of kebab/chicken shops and the Portuguese deli which does excellent sangers and tortilla and pasta and coffee. Then there's the bakery which I would have also said is a front given that it opens for approximately 30 minutes a day and only seems to sell the same iced bun!

I know there was a rumour once of someone who had eaten in there. :D They certainly have a menu and a whole dining room set up.

I mean the little place with the yellow frontage and mesh over the windows... The one where you can't actually see any cooking equipment. <sigh> If you're facing tulse hill from the hobgoblin you cross the road, there's a little set of shops with a couple of newsagents and two takeaways, the first one looks legit enough but the second is this squalid looking yellow place... Walk down there late at night and you'll see what I mean... :D

e2a: Gaijingirl - that place is llegit?!

Or you're probablly talking about somewhere else actually... There's a nice place up on the Brixton end of Coldharbour lane iirc.

you can hire out the downstairs for parties as well - a mate had one in there once and they let us stay till at least 4am.. ;)

Maybe you should buy the iced buns. You might get more than you expect :D

Hi there,

Just got back from the newsagents and you're definitely thinking of Lick Finger. They only put the sign up a few months ago, before it did look well dodgy and to be fair it still does - yellow with white shutters. Before it opened up as a takeaway it was empty and there was a big police operation which culminated in one of those signs about how many drug related arrests were made.

Now, if you go in, you can buy very good food indeed. There are always tons of people hanging about outside, cars with loud music etc. They mind my bike for me when I go into the offy. :D

You've shattered all my illusions about it being the centre of some kind of evil yardie drug syndicate! :D

Well I wouldn't want to cast any aspersions on any of my local businesses. :D I'm sure they're all entirely above board.

With the possible exception of the bakers with the single iced bun.
