Sony have been aggressively targeting photo pros with some of their new laptops and they look very nice indeed:From a pro photography point of view, it's very disapointing seeing as a huge amount of digital backs still run off FW400.

many of them in the hands of Apple's Pro customers.
.... I'm sure those that are affected will reinvest in the equipment they need with which to make an income...won't they?
The MBPs still have Firewire 800, just not the MacBooks. You can get 'bilingual' cables that will allow you to connect your FW400 kit to an FW800 port on the MBP.
tbf, this Displayport is going to be the (next) new standard for display interfaces, it's not just an apple thing.
There are a few advantages that HDMI has over DisplayPort such as support for the xvYCC color space, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA bitstream support, CE control signals, and compatibility with DVI.[88][89] DisplayPort has an advantage that it is currently royalty free which might allow it to be cheaper to implement while the HDMI royalty is 4 cents per device.[90] Most of the DisplayPort supporters are computer companies with its largest supporter being Dell which has released two computer monitors that support both DisplayPort and HDMI.[91][92]

I'm more annoyed at the removal of a USB port to be honest. Mouse, 3G modem and memory stick at the same time isn't too much to ask.

Only having two USB ports is a dreadful idea.
Yep. I can forgive it on the MBA because slim and light is what that's all about but on a 'proper' laptop? Idiotic.
You may feel that, but for the vast majority of users, a proper mouse is far more efficient than a trackpad. That's why just about everyone uses them on their desktops. Can't say I've missed an extra port tbh - everything's largely wireless and with multitouch on the trackpad I've never really felt compelled to link the mouse up
Are they still selling the 'old MacBookPro?
