Never seen the Godfather....

Never seen batman or the exorcist or raging bull.

Agree with DLR that 2001 and bladerunner are dull, dull, dull.

He is, however, wrong about Apocolypse Now.

Danny my film soul is being saved, Bluestreak and Crispy and I are going to sit down and watch the godfather. Obvioulsy its only one film at a time and i still think overboard is aces:D Actually i think Overboard is a bloody brilliant film and i bet i will like it more than the godfather:D

Goldie Hawn? :D

Didn't like Gosford Park. It was a cool dissection of the British class system.

From FUCKING 70 YEARS AGO. Insightful.

Danny is right. Bladerunner is one of THE most overrated films ever. I wouldn't call it crap or a bad film as such
mmm...even if it is, surely the guilty party here is the fuckwit elements of the critical profession, rather than the good Mr Scott? They always end up with groupthink and wild over-adulation.

He does visuals very well. It looks great. Which is fine for a Hovis ad, but not a feature film. So he should shoulder some of the blame.

It's actually an offer of not getting garrotted by Luca Brasi, but hey, you'd know that if you'd watched one of the most important films in history :p

most important films in history FFS get some perspective , it's things like that which turn me off watching godfather to be honest !

Don't let it.

The Godfather is great because it has a very good cast who perform fantastically together, the story is well told, it looks amazing despite not having a huge budget, and it's not rushed, full of car chases and big explosions, and it's not all laid out infront of you like some big dopey old blockbuster. It unwinds, takes it time and delivers on almost every level while being incredibly accessible. Robert Duvall, Pacino, Caan...all fantastic.

As for Coppola, he took a pulp novel and turned it into a great american story againts all the odds.

...and if nothing else, watch it so that you can catch all the quotable lines and great scenes that have been referenced everywhere since the films release.
