My brother doesn't read. He's got dyslexia and from a very young age decided it was too difficult to bother with. He can read though, albeit very slowly.
Now he's 16 and my mom (who is run off her feet) spent weeks reading all the plays and novels for his english GCSE are telling him the plot and writing out quotes for him and typing his essays as he dictated them to her because he left them all until the last couple of weeks before the end of term and had to get an extension.
Even sometimes when I show him The Hard Sell in the guide on a Saturday he refuses to read it because its too long. It drives me mad because it makes him seem so ignorant.
He's going to be fucked in later life cos he's certainly not posh spice
My brother-in-law has never read a book for pleasure in his life.
However, he pours over newspapers and various magazines and has a very wide general knowledge and shows incredible depth when talking about things he's interested in such as surfing, sport and music.
I think some people just absorb information from other sources.
I know someone who claims never to have read a book, except textbooks relevant to his Computer Sciences degree. People like that rule the world, you know.
