I'm up to ep 7.

This is one of those one where you wonder how they can do it.

They seemed to have captured the melancholy, the inhuman and the subtle power of Dream.

I liked the first episode. Hope the rest stays that quality. I do like Neil Gaiman in general and his scripted graphic novels in particular.

The one grumble so far is Jenna Coleman as Constantine. Just seems like Clara from Doctor Who has been allowed to say 'fuck' a lot and it's a bit jarring.
I don't know her, and haven't seen it yet. I did think they might mess up Constantine. Needs to have a London accent with a hint of Scouse.

The rest are as good or even better. Eps 4 & 5 featuring David Thewlis are not just great episodes within this series, they are simply television storytelling at its finest.

Haven’t seen it yet but I’ve read the graphic novels. Really hoping they’ve done a good job. I’ve got the Absolute editions of the books. Lovely things but the problem is they’re so big I feel I should be reading them from a lecturn.

Liked it. Really liked it.

I wanted to like Lucifer (the series), and while there were good bits, it didn't have enough grit/darkness/seriousness to it. Sandman has it in spades. We're up to, I think, ep4.

Finished it today. It’s really very cleverly made. It’s what high-budget tv ought to be: talented people in every position on the team, all working at the top of their game.

The casting is great. Even Stephen Fry was perfect and not too much. Death was glorious and heartbreaking and loveable. I kept thinking “surely no one can complain about her once they see it!”

Sturridge even looks a little like a young Gaiman - and manages to look completely ageless.

Funnily enough, I suppose I didn’t think Christie’s Lucifer worked. It all seemed a little stiff. But everything else was great. Real “phone down” telly.

Up to the Constantine episode and I'll pause to give myself time to enjoy that given my love for JC.

The bad:
I think the first episode was a bit to exposition heavy and Lucienne saying "u sure mate?" Was totally hackneyed foreshadowing. Bit closer to the comics would have been fine. There does tend to be a tell not show habit in most modern shows though.

Likewise not to keen on the Corinthian being the reason Morpheus gets blindsided.

Morpheus voice, I was worried from the trailer but he's fine if it wasnt for the batman voice.

The good:
Lucienne tbf

The budget and sets.

The bloody marvellous:
Hecate

Cain and Abel

Watched ep1. I will say that having read Preludes and Nocturnes it felt a bit drawn out

But I'm well up for this. About time we (me) had a really solid show to enjoy

Needs more of the look from what I've seen, I like the actress but her hairstyles pretty much the same all the time.

I'm worried by the mention of Stephen Fry, who let me guess is Fiddler's Green, can't stand the man.

I gave the first couple of episodes a go cause everyone seems to love it but thought it was pretty terrible tbh - too fast, too explainy.

Not finished the series yet but the death episode, covering my absolute favourite of the comics, was perfect.

Gaiman said they auditioned hundreds of people for Death. They got the right one anyway. They could have played her as a snarky smartarse but instead they made her warm and humane, which is absolutely the point of that character in the story.

Feels like I should know the answer to this....

Oh, yes. The curse he puts on Alex.

Yes.

And no it didn’t, was a bit of a lame curse compared to eternal waking.

Yeah there’s a lot of “as you know” going on and I hope it settles down.

Would have liked to have seen more made of Ethel Cripps shacking up one of the order, betraying the MAgus. That explains (assuming it isn't in the later episode) how the helmet ends up in Chronzon's hands.

I'm going to assume the John Dee episode is unpleasant :D

Considering how complicated the universe is, there's not too much exposition going on. Only episode one had a portentous voiceover, which you can't really avoid when translating something onto TV from a medium where you can shove in boxes full of text wherever you like. They've changed Matthew's role a bit so that he can be a cipher for the audience, but even that is not overused.

I'm listening to ACT II at the moment. The quality of the audio books is top notch, well worth a listen.

Haven't got round to watching yet.
Yeah I really enjoyed the audiobooks/plays. Some episodes that were mediocre comics made really good audio.

I really like it but I guessed the "I'm hope" line from when they first started. :D

Episode 5, however, was top notch.

Managed to get through the whole series last weekend. Loved it. Planning to watch it all again, this time with mrs mx.

I guess there's a sequel in the pipeline........?

Watched the first two episodes. A bit meh tbh. Waiting for my favourite bits and they don't come. All the best lines and scenes mangled. I might give up and just go and read the comics again.

Think overall it dragged a little in the second half once Dream got his tools back. Some of the bits changed to make the vortex plot line more legible ended up just feeling more tangled and illogical - while Dream frequently ended up a bit of a tertiary power character in his own series while others explained stuff to him.

Still a decent series mind and Desire was perfect.
