Negri on Empire

This part of the thread concerns your post suggesting that Empire could not have been informed by a reading of the 78-79 Foucault lectures on bio-politics so could only ever contain a shallow passing acquaintance with the mans works and my response that negri probably was aware of them due to a) a long standing interest in Foucault (having first written about him 10 years previous and helped introduce his ideas in the italian revolutionary left) b) being friendly with F.s research assistants in paris at the very time of the lectures c) there being audio and transcripts existing of the lectures prior to official publication and Negri having legs. There's another possibility as well - Negri's long term friendship with Deleuze.

Yes.

Yes.

It would be interesting to know more as to what access Negri may (or may not) have had to the lectures - and how his 'reading' may have developed? If you have any links or suggestions to source material I would very much appreciate them - if Negri was so well informed then it would be useful to understand why his (apparent) reading in 'Empire' is so superficial and secondary. Perhaps intellectual humility, shyness, who knows?

If you have any suggestions as to Marxist engagements with Foucault - I'm interested to read and learn more.

(Addition: I checked the references section in 'Marx and Foucault' and it appears only the 1970-1971 'The Will to Know' lectures are sourced)
