negative references - HELP!!!

Drugs (BZP), as a drugs worker. But not at the organisation that seems to have given the negative reference.

Seems odd. What do the org have a problem with??

It seems a meeting at the middle is needed, seek the legal advice but get to the bottom of the problem at the root as well.

If it's just some tosspot manager being a cunt, then use someone else as a referee. Either that or if it's too fucked a situation, just invent a travelling holiday to explain your time away. Get hold of receipts and all that shit from a mate who has actually travelled, just in case the new employer needs proof.

Hmm, don't think I should talk about the particulars surrounding my departure, just in case.

But cheers for the ref/explained abscences advice. Might just be effin neccesary, if I cant get HR departments to give proper references....

They're sending it anyway. Plus I've been warned not to. Plus we don't know the legality of it.

When researching this, I found something that said "we will apply for a reference for you, if you suspect a negative reference" on the net. USA though, so no good to me. I reckon it would be considered "entrapment" over here, anyway.

Ohh, know I said I didnt want to talk about it for a while, but unequivocal thanks to everyone who contributed.

If there are any unforseen developments, I may be back. Otherwise maybe let it die a death? Ta very much people

OK, got the references back. Nothing short of outstanding (bastards - I bitterly resent not being able to take someone to court...) except the one from my most recent employer who simply said "he wroked here from ___ to____".

On the phone they indicated that my manager from my recent employer may have been the one who said it (when I asked if she had said something, they guy said "that name rings a bell"). I've now written asking for exact clarification. Not sure if I will get it. But if it was my last manager, I agreed informerly that I would leave the company without disciplinary if there was to be no negative reference. Anyone have any idea where I would stand on that? At the very least I would contact her boss, but where would I stand legally? I suspect with no legs, but if anyone knows for sure I would be grateful...
