Fry some onion. Take out of the pan. Fry some rice and lentils. Add boiling water and a selection of curry base spices - cardamon, clove, that kind of thing. Simmer until water absorbed. Mix onion back in.
Lush - and the rice/lentil combo means it's a perfect balance of proteins.
When I was on my year out I lived for a couple of months on value crumpets and cheese. Or baked potatoes with value beans and cheese. Still managed to have nice health coke n' pills diet though
When I was a student it was value spaghetti and a tin of value tomatoes with garlic nearly every flaming night. Or fish finger butties. Or 10 p noodles.
Now it would just be pasta all the way, with various bits and pieces from the larder (just a stcok cube or butter etc)
at university, i was reduced to eating pasta mixed with melted "i can't beleive it's not butter" and sprinkled with salt and pepper for a couple of days, while waiting for my grant cheque to clear.
