Need a super-doopa compooter

Yep, if you're not overclocking and not planning on blowing £250+ on a CPU you might as well get an AMD, the prices have been slashed enough to make them competitive in the medium to low end.

Just as a bump, Mesh have got thier line of core 2 duo machines up on their site. Dell are being a bit more cagey, haven't bothered checking everywhere else yet.

My pieces are due to arrive in the morning.

I meant to say Bob, I had to go buy a new psu, altho I was actually at a fair to buy a case anyway, because the new Mobos have 24 pin power connectors and the old mobos have a 20 pin (or the other way round) and also requires a little 4 pin plug that you need to attach to the mobo too. I checked out my mobo at the fair. Guy was nice enough to let me have a look and fill me on the psu, probably expecting me to buy one.

Luckily I got the guy to update the 230w (what the fuck was he thinking? that wouldn't run a kiddie pc these days) to a 500w brand new PSU for a fiver with the case I bought for my new PC.

Since I just bought a new TFT monitor I figured I had all the pieces to run two machines and with me new router/modem I can play Lan games in my house! Sweet!

HP kindly lent us the whooping HP xw6400 Workstation

4 x Intel Xeon CPU (Woodcrest) 5160 @ 3.00GHz
3.25 GB of RAM

It comes with six ultra-quiet fans, supports 8 monitors and on first tests (straight out of the box) is 4x faster than our Pentium4!! (although they're having to cope with firing over the network whereas the HP is stand-alone).

Holy crap my PC now rules!

Its so quiet I can't hear a thing from it, got it on Cool'n'Quiet setting, and its VERY cool.

My old PC CPU was running at around 54 ish normally and getting up to 60ish on a warm day.

This CPU is running at 34!!

That is considerably cooler.
