Nauseatingly twee or cringe-making songs.

, yes, love between men. Not too many songs out there deal with it.

was it really though?

i used to say it was, cos i wanted it to be. but i was never really sure.

someone was saying that Abba are universally known as cringeworthy, but i don't think they are. cheesy maybe, but good cheesy i reckon.

<goes to put on dancing queen> :)

edit:kyser, i just thought..was the reference to their 'toys' youknowwhat?

*ponders the song as affirmation of homosexual love*

No, sorry, even within this (slightly more positive) framework it's still the most tooth-achingly sentimental song ever recorded. :D

well put :D that's what i was wondering. i think i got hints of the mountain kinda lurve...and then elaborated.

fucking hell. really?

i need to listen to this again at some point. i've obviously missed something crucial! :D wasn't there something about a toothbrush too? or was that a different song?

I woke up this morning with a most oppressively vile song running through my head, a song so nauseating, so twee, mawkish and revolting that I was tempted to bang my head on the wall. :(

The song? "Bobby's Girl", a song with lyrics that are surely the most vile affront to liberated womanhood ever recorded!

So, dear readers, what are your pet hates, what sickly-sweet sentimental tunes make your gorge rise and your throat tighten in anticipation of vomiting? :)

Cringe making songs -

Hate: there are many, but one that immediately springs to mind is 'Roads' by Portishead

I hate just about everything about it.

Sentimental song that doesn't make the bile rise is:
Love: the Andrew Gold song 'Never let her slip away' :)

Um NO - it's about a bond of friendship between two men that even survives them fighting on different sides of a war, not a paen to Brokeback-lovin'.

It's funny how whenever bonds of love and friendship are ever talked about between hetrosexual men everyone automatically assumes it's a cover for homosexuality.

oh i just get in frisky moods where i'd hear a bit of sauciness local radio traffic alerts... take no notice of me. just messin :o

fucking hell

i can't believe i just listened to two little boys, voluntarily :(

kyser - they're here, they're queer, get used to it ;):p

actually, i just remembered :D i should be shot apparently, because i like chasing cars by snow patrol.

<offers backside>

i have honestly seen my cred go drip dripping down in people's eyes on hearing that... :D

I don't remember that song, but yes, it probably will.

Do you think that the regular appearance of teeth-gritting novelty songs in the UK Top 40 is the 'equal and opposite reaction' to also being spectacularly blessed in credible music?

I suspect that it is. :(

kyser, you're obviously forgetting the line that goes "gayly they played, each summer's day...".

:p:D:p

My partner is having a Beach Boys phase. I'm not.

I don't know which is worse, the cringe-making falsetto or my hangover lie-in being interrupted this morning by that bit at the end of 'Barbara Anne' where they all sound drunk.:mad:

Even if they did play shuffle the oboe with each other all summer long.. the song is still about bravery, loyalty and sacrifice.

Meanies.

PS. I have no idea if 'shuffle the oboe' really is a euphamism for mutual masturbation.. but it is now. :)

That's funny. That song makes my dad really weep!

You are like my dad.

:eek::eek:

Clouds Across The Moon is absolutely brilliant
