Nationalism, is only good for MY country, everyone else is shit at it.

There's only one type of good nationalism. English nationalism. Every other kind of "nationalism" is only by name and should be banned, well with the exception of "British", that's there to make the Welsh and the Scottish feel significant every now and then.

I think he's referring to my arty shot of the Welsh flag that currently adorns the urban75.com homepage.

Despite there being no triumphant chest beating visible on the graphic (and the alt text only says: "Wales win the Six Nations and clinch the Grand Slam!"), I assume that I am one of the "fucking nationalists" that he has a problem with.

Of course if he knew anything about rugby, he'd know that the passion shown at such events is a fabulous, uplifting, inclusive thing.

In Cardiff, the Welsh fans stood next to the Irish fans and they sang along to each others anthems. There was no booing. Only respect.

And if you haven't heard the Welsh anthem being sung at the Millennium stadium, you haven't lived. It's a beautiful sound.

At the end of the match, all the fans went for a beer together.

Take away that passion and you subtract from the human spirit.

England football shirts were worn and there was no self respect.

Now, since the 90's, at least we can stand proud, that's all we want as a small nation , just some respect, not world domination, not sympathy.

Diesn't nationalism fall into the 'more harm than good' category? Whilst you might like your national anthem a lot, I think you could retain an attachment to your locale, cultures and habits without needing an arbitrary nation-state to sanction them for you. In fact, attachment to national emblems and practices sometimes squashes regional difference, which is more 'natural' (if you care about such things) anyway.

And the perk of a more vanilla politics, which was capable of incorporating a wide variety of local cultures without needing to thump the patriotic drum from time to time to get us behind 'our boys' in their latest wog-slaying adventure, would surely be in a greater clarity amongst working people about who their natural allies and enemies are.
