A few million quid going up in flames. :D

I actually went to a KLF house party in Stockwell years ago.

I got too pissed on the way and missed one, their Glastock party. legendary, apparently

The way I see it, most people don't know who Bill Drummond is. Vastly more have never heard of No Music Day. Vastly more still don't care enough about music, however important it is to them, to have to re-examine their relationship with it; or ponder on what they want from it, perhaps listenening to music in alphabetical order for the next twenty-six years.

Bill Drummond is a musician, however, and musicians like attention, on the whole. They also don't realise that not everyone is as serious about it as they are. I don't think that makes him a twat. But it doesn't mean that No Music Day is a good idea, either.

I've not listened to any music today, but I'm sure I will as I see no point in doing otherwise.

Well, when your morning mail includes the new albums by Castanets, Black Mountain and Bishop Allen you're hardly going to bother are you?

And to me the three minutes of Castanets' This Is The Early Game track already means more to me than the entire life work of Bill Drummond. gave me the chills more than any new song I've heard this year.

So, No Music Day has put things in perpective for me...I like music without gimmicks Mr Drummond!

can;t wait to play the new Black Mountain.

I think it's a great idea given the ceaseless expansion of piped music into each corner of life. Also does having more music available to you make you a better listener? just stop for one day and take a step back.

ResonanceFM is signed up to it all day. We got more positive responses last year when we did it than for any single broadcast.

Umm so what was the point of this????

Why would you not listen to music and what cuase/idea is this promoting.

It seems like silly bollocks to me and am glad i have played a lot of music thus far today.

It's more than silly bollocks.

If Mr Drummond wants a day without music, why does he not do what most other people do, and go, unannounced, for a walk in the hills without his iPod? I do this far more than once a year, and without feeling the need to organise a National Day to tell other people what I think is good for them.

you could argue that he's taking a swipe at those kids on buses who play tiny stuff off mobiles (sodcasting i think is the term :p ) it's not exactly music and it just annoys everyone. It has more in common with dogs pissing against trees trying mark their territory.

You could argue that. And you could also say the same about the horrible racket you hear in shops and elevetaors that you mentioned in a previous post.
And I'd be all for banning that kind of shit for a day but Drummond doesn't come out and say it does he?

Surely we can all think for ourselves when we want to listen to music. What we like/dislike about a partiuclar piece of music etc etc.

He's having a laugh. That is all.

Drummond is only just about a musician. And he retired from music at the height of his fame to shuffle off into semi-obscurity.
you may well be the first person to accuse him of taking it seriously.

No music day is a joke, largely I think at the expense of the sort of people displaying such indignation on this thread, but just because it's a joke doesn't mean it's pointless

exactly. on another thread, someone describe the burning as 'just a prank'. It may be a prank, but that doesn't mean it's 'just' one.

Well I've celebrated it by listening to Irdial's radio shows from the early 90s - reminds me of some of Resonance's output actually. But I've tempered it by reading Tom Hodgkinson's How To Be Free - I think Tom would see Drummond as a fellow spirit. So thank you Bill.

well Bill is a regular contributor to the Idler..

I had the radio off all day today. It was quite nice not having 'same old same old' 6Music - couldn't really do the whole complete non music thing though as I'd have to have stayed off work alltogether. :D

What, people not cool enough to "get" it? Oh, well, so long as there was a point, we're all happy.

Perhaps he'd also like to come round and trip us up then laugh at us, just so we'd finally see the narrative?
