It certainly isn't the anthem of the whole island though and that is the point.

if you play for ireland then it is your anthem irrespective of your background, just as the british anthem would be yours if you played for the north, i know the point that you are making and it is still an issue over here, recently a small number of players from catholic backgrounds have refused to turn out for the north at football

It's not the English national anthem though is it? It's the British one. The Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish have their own, who not us? Particularly as it hardly respects the views of atheist republicans.

Do we?? Would you mind telling me what they are? Coz I have no idea what the scottish one is. Flower of Scotland is NOT the national anthem afaik. I f***ing hate that song, until they can sing it and mean it.

I can't remember what they are, but when I've seen Scotland or Wales play they have their own song. Whether they're official national anthems as such I don't know. Also, I didn't realise NI sang GSTQ.

Maybe we should have two national anthems, both GSTQ, one sung by some opera singer and the other by Johnny Rotten.
