National Anthems...

I have no idea of the make up of the present XV

It certainly isn't the anthem of the whole island though and that is the point.

if you play for ireland then it is your anthem irrespective of your background, just as the british anthem would be yours if you played for the north, i know the point that you are making and it is still an issue over here, recently a small number of players from catholic backgrounds have refused to turn out for the north at football

but you can't play for the north at rugby

It's not the English national anthem though is it? It's the British one. The Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish have their own, who not us? Particularly as it hardly respects the views of atheist republicans.

Why not You'll Never Walk Alone???

because it's the shittest, cheesiest, most cliched and downright godawful song ever associated with sport or anything else.

Do we?? Would you mind telling me what they are? Coz I have no idea what the scottish one is. Flower of Scotland is NOT the national anthem afaik. I f***ing hate that song, until they can sing it and mean it.
I can't remember what they are, but when I've seen Scotland or Wales play they have their own song. Whether they're official national anthems as such I don't know. Also, I didn't realise NI sang GSTQ.

Maybe we should have two national anthems, both GSTQ, one sung by some opera singer and the other by Johnny Rotten. :)

The Welsh one is most certainly 'official.'

Watched a big strong rugby player with tears rolling down his cheeks, singing his national anthem. He was an Argentinian.

yeah how cool, oh wait he's clearly a fucking muppet, what's his nation ever fucking did for him, other than lead thousands of young men to their deaths.

Nationalism is a fucking cunts tricks for morons.

mmm, I think you'll find that was the military junta - not the country per se.

and what was used to mobilise people around the little adventure in south Atlantic, wouldn't be nationalism? The idea that people in an arbitrary geographical entity have the same interests and shiuld be proud for being born heroically within set boundaries?

Just as 'our boys' got waved out to meet the argentinian conscripts by a sea of Union Jacks and a soundtrack of Rule Britannia and God save the Queen.

Sorry but your reply is rather moronically put. Try some intelligent argumentation next time.

No matter how shite the song is, it's always better to see someone belting it out like Stuart Pearce used to, than not, IMO.

Makes it look like they're actually going to put some fucking effort in, not like these overpaid cunts these days.
