NaNoWriMo 2008 (bit early but so what...)

I thought I might try writing it longhand, then typing it up, a bit every day.

The thing is that if you write it longhand it's a lot less tempting to go back and edit things. Also I am fairly fast at copy typing. But writing and then typing up 50,000 words sounds like a pain in the arsehole.

that will be HARD....

but youre right about it making less apt to be edited...typing it isnt the problem, figuring out what to type is. ;)

ive never co-wrote anything so im not sure how thats gonna work, i know it'll be a shitload of arguments but hopefully will churn out something worthwhile from this labour of love, and thats what it is. :)

I'm quite tempted to get involved in this. Doing a bit of writing anyway and could be quite fun to align it to this timetable. Is it too late to sign up?

no, you could sign up on November 30 and write 50,000 words in one day if you really wanted to:D

Ooh, co-writing.

So... does that mean you only have to do 25,000 words? Or that you're still doing 50,000 each??

I have a setting!
No plot, or characters yet though.

Is there any point to actually signing up to the site? I considered this last year, and signed up. All I got from it was a bunch of annoying emails that I think were supposed to be inspiring but actually just came across as patronising.

If not, I won't sign up, but I might still give it a go.

i do feel part of something if you do, and get encouraged spurred on by your internet mates as you go

Aww! I really love those emails!

And yeah, joining up makes me feel more part of it.

I hate to pull the 'back in the day' thing, but a few years ago, when it was still only about 3 thousand people or so doing it, the boards were brilliant, really helpful. But now they're so huge with so many participants posting, I personally find it a bit impossible to follow any threads. But I still have a little go on there sometimes.

And I am utterly psyched about this now! :D :D

i am getting psyched  3 years in a row I've done it, after last year I thought, no , I've done it 3 times, no point doing 4, but November comes along and suddenly, I want to do it again:mad:

I so do, though. It's just that I'm struggling to knock out the last 600 words of my assignment. I can hardly justify sitting there writing 1600 words a night for a laugh...

tbf, i do know what you're going through, I did teacher training in 94/5, and it is a tough year

You're on a PGCE yes? The assignments are easy as anything. The rest of it, not so much, so perhaps not a good time to be doing Nanowrimo.

However, you could try to set up a youth Nanowrimo thing with your classes. I'm going to try it with my classes. You set your own word limit.

i disagree. I am finding the assignment very tough. By contrast, I got a decent feedback after my first week of TP.

i found it quite tough too, not all the time, the tp was the most stressful, agonising over lesson plans, outcomes, etc:D

See, I don't know if it's because I taught in China, but I'm finding the planning fine.

This assignment though! It's meant to be 3000 words. I've done about 2250. I need to finish it now so I can go home and make it into the groovy, funky poster display they require. I'm really struggling to put any more down.
