it was fun, it helps when others are there, sharing the pain:D

i'll start it under the same log in, i think i'm marty21 on there as well

it might mean bye bye to november, i hardly went out last year, and when i was i was thinking about how to stretch the story with meaningless conversations
Do you remember Fridgemagnet's swearing idea? That was funny.
I've also tried to rope in members of my creative writing class to do it this year....

I may not even start it... mwahahaha... see how it goes.

I might draw up a plan at lunch and see if I can come up with any ideas. :)

Not sure if I'll have time to write over 300 words a day though!

they have little charts to mark your progress against your writing buddies

300 a day?:(

((((((zenie's chart)))))))

300 a day would put you on 9000 words in total, which is under a fifth of the target/....

So unless you're planning to cheat and submit something you've already done 41,000 words of :) :p

you've got to do 1667 words a day in order to get the wordcount

shit i'm doomed. the things iget myself in for.

Yeah, it's 1600 words a day, innit?!

I've got a setting chosen, two characters, and I'm thinking on a plot or two.... I have murders and killin's and such in my head, but I'm traditionally not a fan of detective novels, so I don't know where I'll go with that...Plus the best detective novels are quite complex to unravel, and I don't think I could ravel up a plotline like that on the hoof...

Still, I suppose you have to try, that's the whole point!

I'm gonna spend an hour at my writing station and go full pelt and see how many words that gets me - if I can get close to 1600 then this will be a piece of piss.:)

 ;)

i've got the main characters, the general direction of the novel, a surprising ending, and an assortment of plot developments and set pieces, happily sitting in my head... all i've got to do is hang the words on the frame. and yet i am still convinced i can't do it.

I think that's an excellent start - though judging from other writers have said, having too much prep and not being open to the off-the-cuff developments you come across as you write might deminish your enjoyment of it, and hurt the attempt - so be careful of that.

I'm still ruminating on a premise....but like you, I've got several themes and set pieces I can get on with while I'm waiting for that to solidify - I don't think I'll be writing this in order...do you?

 bluestreak. :) You're well on your way.

I'm glad you're doing it too this year.

No chance of me writing that many words and having any kind of life, although I have registered as zenie :D

well, to be honest this is a novel that has existed in its theoretical form for a number of years now. I don't really have a structure, just a page of notes that i made when i woke up and realised the dream i had was ace, and ran with it. i'm quite happy for the novel to develop a life of its own and go in different directions if that's what happens!

Re: writing it in order, I haven't a clue yet. I don't think it is possible to write purely in order. but if you don't write in order, you know what's going to happen and where's the surprise in that!

last year i started with a vague idea about characters, the hero was a thinly disguised version of me (a housing officer based in hackney:D ) other characters were based partly on people i have met, tenants and mates...names were changed to protect the innocent

the story developed it's own momentum, i didn't have an idea of where it would end up, there was a love story element, there were break ups:( and i didn't know if they would get back together or not until i came to write that bit.

I would go back after an add bits and edit slightly, although if i would to go back to it now, i'd have to edit it savagely

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly with the story taking its own momentum approach. I mean, it's loads & loads of output in one single month! There's not really any time to plan as you go along. You can of course, do the sensible thing like onemonkey & plan it way in advance. But if you haven't, there's little choice but to make it up as you're going along.

I like setting myself really tough challenges & last year was good fun.

I have to say though, it does take up a lot of your time. I was unemployed this time last year, and I still found it hard time wise. Though I also started a story that I later came to hate - it made me depressed - so I ended up starting on something new 11 days in. Not really the best idea.

Will definitely put some time into planning tonight though. I quite like Renegade Dog's idea about merging several stories into one.

cool.. welcome back marty, vixen, renegadedog. welcome aboard bluestreak, wookey(?) and zenie(??)

the more people we get doing this the more fun it will be..

at the moment i have NOTHING..

but there's still 36 hours before i need to worry about that

well this is a good as excuse as any to shirk working for a month

i have an idea

it's probably going to fail horribly but it is basically the story of a person going mad... and just about all of the major dramatis personae exist only inside the main characters head ... sort of a form of incredibly twisted jiminy cricket the main character is fairly much based on myself but taken a little further therefore you can possibly just about imagine what sort of people i'd imagine if i started to lose it

fox ears are probably going to be involved ... but not necessarily in a nice way

you're my buddy, woo woo woo. at least, you're my buddy but i don't think that automatically makes me one of yours. iyswim.

bit like real life sadly, i guess :(

(but i am your buddy really, right? :))

course man.

one thing to note though - it appears like you can only have four buddies. in fact, you just have to wait till the screen scrolls down, and there you are, more buddies! :)

it's the small things that make me happy.
