Nanowrimo 2005

November is (inter)national novel writing month (www.nanowrimo.org).. who's up for it?

The idea is that you have to write a 50,000 word novel from beginning to end all in the month of november. A number of us tried it last year and it was one of the best things i've ever done. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I did the 50k, though it was quite a struggle at times, and whilst I didn't produce a great work of literature and i still haven't finished the blessed thingm it was a very liberating and creative experience.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over talent and craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

so come nov 1st I am having another go.. who's with me?

Don't think so this year - I'm redesigning my site in November as well, so I don't think I can fit in two creative acts at once...

reading the description that onemonkey has quoted i do see that it's quite a good idea. yes, it would be a load of crap (what you write) but i guess it might be a good way to get a few ideas for other things at a later date - when you do have (more) time to write something *good*.

that's a hell of a lot of words though (and a very short space of time).. although no more than the crap i probably put on here in an average month.

edit to add: the link doesn't work.

I'm not sure I understand.
I get the 50k word thing. But not the "registering" thing. Why that?

http://www.nanowrimo.org/modules/xoopsfaq/index.php?cat_id=1

is a good page to read , gives you the idea better of what happens... :)

this is  :D

Will participants meet each other?

This year's participants all over the world will get together to drink coffee, steal plots, and partake in the highly therapeutic variety of whining known only to amateur novelists.

and this

The "Thank God It's Over" Party.

At the end of November, all participants (regardless of final word count) get together to celebrate and show off parts of their novel and jump up and down and shake their heads at the folly of what they have just done to themselves.

:D

of course none of ^ that is compulsary....just a 50k (or more) word novel, about anything you want to write about....then you submit it....

what have you got to lose?? :)

i went to the london launch party last night, it was great to meet some other nanowrimo-fo's before we get started.. i had expected them to be a bunch of fantasy freaks but actually there were all kinds of people there. it was a good thing to able to put names and faces to some of the other marathonists. about 40 people will be interesting to see how many of them attend the final party in 30something days

welcome aboard MA and very good luck to you (and everyone else)

are we all registering with our urbanite names btw?

i have..

im not MightyAphrodite on there ... always use a pen name  :D :p

you cant help but love a fora called :

I Hate Myself and Want to Die

I knew it was going to be bad, but not this bad. A clubhouse for novelists in distress.

it's dog eat dog dollface

but i won't nick it innit :)

i don't have a plot yet

at the moment i can't decide whether to spin out the much loved childhood tale of Herman and the Bunny Slippers into a full sequence of Extra Ordinary adventures for young Herman.. (they may seem Extraordinary to you.. but so many extraordinary things happen to Herman that to him it seems ordinary)

either that or i will write a book about a man who knows everything where all the characters are named after types of tea.

or else i might write something completely different..

i will find out at midnight tomorrow :)

im starting to think my plot will have the god-botherers up in arms and after lynching me :( :D

thats just self doubt though, its normal before it kicks off
:p
