Name one good musical

Annie is brilliant!

I need to go and see Chicago again soon.
I'm just waiting for a non annoying celebrity to be in it. I think it's Jerry Springer at the moment.

The only good musicals are the Producers, Team America and South Park the movie. All of the rest are pretty much insane.

There aren't any good musicals. Those are just films with songs. Surely a musical actually needs to be something where songs attempt, miserably, to actually convey the story.
If films with songs are allowed then Dancer in the Dark is the only good musical. End of thread.
I guess O Brother Where Art Though is watchable, and some of the songs are almost fun, and it doesn't rely on songs to tell the story. So that's another film with songs that is ok.
The musical, as a genre, sucks so hard that I can't even find an expression to fully cover its quantity of suckage.

You are talking SHIT!

Cute little Gary Wilmott is in it at the moment! I love Gary Wilmott. He once shouted at me for cheating during a pub quiz.

Oh and Honey from Eastenders is playing Roxy.

But, moomoo....you must see?! Queen AND Ben Elton AND a musical?! It's like someone has tapped into my brain to come up with the worst thing possible.

Hmmm... you may have a point I suppose.

Perhaps I won't bother. :(

I wanted to take the kids to see Wicked when we come down to London in October but it's £85 a ticket. I'll see if I can get cheapy ones on the day.

So I've heard.

Still not paying bloody £85 a ticket for it though!

Yeah that's insania. I'm sure I didn't pay that much! I went on my own and I had to tell the girl next to me to stop singing the songs along with the actors. She was 12 or something, I didn't care.

They've made the whole theatre green aswell!!

I'm not though :(
It's how I feel. And you can't argue with feelings :p
In all seriousness though, I have never once felt that using a fucking song to take the place of dialogue or cinematography (if it's a film) was better.
I will admit that I actually massively enjoyed a performance of Sweeny Todd that someone i know was in, and that surprised me, but it was a good show and the lyrics were pretty clever, so maybe it's something that can work on stage but not in film.
Maybe.
But, I am well uncultured and I don't like opera because it is full of songs :hmm:

Did you get it on the day Upchuck?

No I got them from lastminute. They weren't the lowest ranking seats, they were the one above (I think 4th best or suomething). It was in the upstairs but I really felt and enjoyed the show. I wouldn't pay £85 for a ticket as I would see no need. £30-£35 would be my tops.

Have you seen Hair? Answer me!

And, OK, Hedwig And The Angry Inch is a quality film. But I don't think it's a musical really. It's a film in which the characters happen to do some singing....
I'm losing ground rather rapidly here.
I should never be adamant when I'm drunk. Damn.

i've enjoyed all the sondheim musicals i've heard - a funny thing happened on the way to the forum, a little night music, sunday in the park with george, sweeney todd and into the woods. and west side story, of course.

then there's loads of old ones - showboat, carousel, etc... not massively keen on yer les mis type bollocks though. or anything by scumface lloyd webber.

Sondheim= Quality lyrics. That makes up for a lack of quality dialogue I reckon.
