I believe the fact that not many pull groups like NWA up for their horrible misogyny is a racism in itself.

People would never let white lads get away with lyrics like that but society thinks "oh they're rough black lads from the ghetto - they don't know any better" - but I call bollocks.

Nobody Move by Eazy-E

Peepin at a bitch cause my dick's on hard
Laughin at the dumb ass security guard
who's tied up for the moment, not sayin' a word
I should have known it before, the motherfucker's a nerd
But back to the bitches I'm peepin
and then untie the hoe, so I can start creepin
Took her to the backroom, about to jack
Cold trailed the bitch, with a gun in the back
I said: "Lay down, and unbutton your bra!"
There was the biggest titties that a nigga ever saw
I said: "Damn", then the air got thinner
Only thought in my mind, was goin' up in her
The suspense was makin' me sick
She took her panties down and the bitch had a dick!
I said: "Damn", dropped the gat from my hand
(What I thought was a bitch, was nothing but a man)
Put the gat to his legs, all the way up his skirt
because this is one faggot that I had to hurt, so

No interest in the Film as it will always be a lick arse exercise than benefits Dre and crews bank accounts..........Fuck em large
As for the "band"????
1 good album thousands of mile of total toss in the press
Paved the way for ther self indulgent tossbags who now rule "Hip Wank"
Fuck em all to death with their Dads butt plugs.......

Eazy E was a real gang-banger, a compton crip, who had no talent for rapping, and according to the SOC movie only got a go on the mic after Dre fell out with the rappers theyd booked for the session. Eazy E solo material (of which you posted a lyric - its not an NWA track) is terrible - all of it, as far i know. You'd have to search hard to find someone who stands up for it.

This isnt music made in a vacuum. Young US gang members aren't model citizens and it shouldnt be surprising that they're capable of saying and doing the worst things. What is amazing with NWA is that out of that situation a group of individuals, which included a couple of crips , managed to create a record that is genuinely artful and powerful in the most part, and that created a musical phenomenon that completely conquered US charts, and beyond. Id argue it had political consequences too.

The other element in this is that real gangstas making records about gangsta life wasn't something that was even feasible at the time, in that radio and tv wouldnt touch it, and labels wouldnt sign it + studio time was expensive. The fact that it took Eazy's drug money to fund the project is testament to that. At its best gangsta rap can transcend the realities of ghetto violence into something beautiful and powerful - at its worst its as ugly and depressing as gang life itself.

I remember the first time I heard NWA - it was 1989 and I was in Shelly's in Oxford Street.

In the basement they were playing Gangsta Gangsta and there was a girl with her middle class mum buying shoes - the mum was laughing with disgust and shaking her head. IIRC i asked what it was, and soon after purchased it - I had been into rap since Run DMC and Beastie Boys, but this was like a new wave.

On a side note, I listened to the first two Eminem albums recently, which I listened to a lot when they came out - the casual rape references and use of the word Faggot made me bristle a bit, which it didn't at the time. Tings have changed, bwoi
