My son just got mugged in Brockwell park

No I don't think so, its the 3rd time its happened so I think she just cancelled the phone/sim which made it useless and as muggings go, pointless

its a shame she didn't report it. If the police were aware there was a couple of guys regularly targeting people in Brockwell Park they might actually do something about it.

These guys are pure cowards. To pick on a 13 year old boy walking his little brother home from school is pathetic. He's off school today still upset and I doubt I'll ever be able to convince him to fetch his brother from school again.

Exactly the same thing happened to me, in exactly the same place, at about the same time of day, back in 1999. I'm aggrieved to hear that things haven't changed.

I don't know if they can be much help but you should contact the Park Rangers

Appendix 19
Staff Presence In Brockwell Park
Staff presence in Brockwell Park is covered in a variety of ways.
The Park Rangers
Brockwell Park is covered and patrolled by the Brixton area park rangers team and although
they cover all of the Brixton parks they spend a significant amount of their time in Brockwell
Park. The rangers patrol on foot, on cycles as well as the highly visible vehicle with the
ranger logo. In addition the Lambeth Park Ranger HQ is based within Brockwell Hall, which
means that all 20 Park Rangers pass through the park throughout the day. Park Rangers
core hours are from around midday to dusk seven days a week.
Brockwell Park Manager and Development Education Officer
The recently appointed Park Manager and Development Education Officer for Brockwell
Park are both based fulltime in the Park. Their working hours are 0900 to 1700 hours
Monday to Friday. During events at weekends and out of hours they may also be present.
Grounds Maintenance Contract Staff
Based within the park are the ‘on site’ grounds maintenance contract staff who work ever
day of the year except Xmas day. Their working hours are 7.00am to 4.30pm. They are
highly visible in their uniform and would be able to engage with park users. There are
approximately seven operatives throughout the park.
Lambeth Parks Officers
Area Parks officers, Tree officers, Parks Client Manager, Events officers and the Parks and
Greenspace Manager are regularly in the park.
Police and Community Support
In addition, there are patrols from the Police and Police Community Support Officers as
well as the local parks friends group who have a very well organised network.
The combination of the above elements ensures that there is routinely a visible , identifiable
and accessible staff presence in Brockwell Park.

Everyone should report every incident to the police - not because they could necessarily do anything about your problem, but every report has to be logged and then when they look at the statistics they have to direct the resources to achieve there targets.

Perhaps they could change their route home to avoid the park, maybe use buses around the park? could take a little longer, but would be safer and around more people.

Have to say this has been on my mind all day - My son's mum was planning on getting him a better phone for his b'day next month and I was thinking about upgrading his mp3 player - then you think what's the point if some selfish cowardly cunt is gonna use it as an excuse to rob and punch him.

He's only eleven and seems to get left alone at the moment, regularly walking through Tulse Hill estate between here and his mums, getting the bus at both ends of the day for school, but I do still worry.

When I was a kid we just got a whack of the older kids cos we didn't have anything to nick :(

i am very sorry to hear this. your poor son.

my friends son who is 12 recently got mugged too at a little square near brockwell park. the police came the next day after his school. and because the boys who did the mugging 5 of them (all black too - iam saying this because there seems to be a culture going on in particular amongst the afro caribean community...i know there a white muggers often enough too) wore their school uniform 3 of them could be identified (and the other two as well because those 3 got identified).

please report it to the police. its unbelievable it happend in the park and in the daytime. very scary i am often there around this time and that would totally devastate me as i am sure your son is now.

good luck. this mugging culture amongst teenagers really needs to be adressed even more.

that my favourite place in the whole world has cunty mc cunts spoiling kids days. I got mugged at uni in leeds 8 years ago and it was just shit all over. not something I would wish on a kid just doing his thang.

well I assume the two fuckers arent big enough to mug an adul but if they did they would get their come uppance I hope

They were big enough to mug an adult...but clearly too cowardly to pick on someone their own size.

Definitely worth reporting though - last summer when that (adult) used to come out on his mini motorbike thing every day at the same time and ride it at high speed through groups of people I reported it. The next day and every day afterwards I noticed the old bill were in the park. Didn't see the mini motorbike guy again. The park rangers are also very good and also Friends of Brockwell Park can be very vocal.

I have to say, we were (attempting) to fly a kite last weekend when we noticed a small group of teenage boys apparently casing the place for potential nicking opportunities. (I could be wrong but I think I'm fairly well attuned to suspicious behaviour in teenagers.... :D)

I think if word goes out and people make enough fuss about it and keep their eyes out, it could get stamped out fairly quickly.

cunts and cowards. hope he's ok.

how come I never get mugged or attacked? I guess being 6'4 and 17 stone is the reason. sadly schoolboys don't have this kind of advantage.

I've never been mugged.

I'm not sure what I'd do if someone tried, but i have a strong suspician I'd tell them to fuck off and end up getting the shit kicked out of me.

What about getting a little posse together (strengh in numbers) and going down to BD, see if these kids are regulars there, get some photogrpahic evidence.

It did make me think though Missez, what happened to your son - I usually come through at night (there's a way to get through on this side) but last night I went round, I was a bit pissed and decided it was probably better to stay with the lights - wouldn't normally bother me.

Seems there are more than enough pissed off urbanites to set up a sting operation. These crims sound like they wouldn't be hard to spot.

I've been keeping an eye out. My younger son remembers pretty much everything he sees very well, so he'll know them if he sees them again. I intend to get pictures of them if we do spot them.

They are most likely local.

Fucking bastards - I hate hearing this sort of thing. I hope your son's feeling better. It's not a part of growing up at all - this sort of thing can really knock your confidence, and shouldn't be happening.

Not least in Brockwell Park, where there are always plenty of people around. Someone should have intervened or helped them out. These fuckers can only get away with it because no-one does or says anything :mad:

Best wishes to your boys. Good luck - and keep us informed.

I'm sorry and agree with what everyone else has said.

Always been an 'intervener' myself when I see something like that happen, usually they back down when they see attention being paid to their shit.

This is one instance where I don't see poverty (alleged) as an excuse. Was very poor meself when brought up but never thought it would be a good idea to take from someone else, especially after threatening with violence. In such a case I'd always refer to the local forces who sort these things out, in this case the police.

Unfortunately catching the individuals doesn't look very likely but look on the bright side, they may well get whacked in future themselves. The positive thing is your son will get OK again, you may find it useful to thank him for being such a brave lad who looks after his brother. He sounds a gem.

Thanks for all your kind words everyone. My son is taking it very well. He is still nervous about going out on his own though.

The police have been in touch and want him to try and identify the perps from some pictures of likely suspects. I am not sure how easy that will be. :(

If there is a lot of this going on in the same location make sure that letters are written to the local councillor, papers and police chiefs...petitions and a community campaign will help and put pressure on the police to take this more seriously. I can't believe that with so many incidents they are not already staking the park out or using decoys to try and catch these like twats.

The original incident which prompted this thread was over a year ago. The Park is hardly crime spree central.

Muggings are happening all across London everyday. My son was mugged at the bus stop outside his school a couple of months back. He took it in his stride and accepts it as just 'something that happens'.

His mate was mugged this week somewhere else.....and many of his mates have been mugged in various different locations around South London

...all for mobile phones.

The Muggers seek out vulnerable people in isolated locations during quiet times......

The fact that the young mum was beaten is worrying.....most of the kids being mugged are just being threatened until they hand over their phones.

Nanker Jnr's muggers even handed his Sim Card back to him......after threatening to stab him!

Well I apologise if I misunderstood but I don't think it can hurt to draw people's attention to the incidents that are going on there.

A young mother being beaten in front of a toddler is another level of cuntiness and worrying as you said.

I wouldn't think that this wasn't the same people. If it is that's a major escalation from mugging other kids to beating up mothers in front of their toddlers.

This .... I'm in the park every day with my baby. I wasn't too concerned before - they can have my phone it cost £19.99, but I don't want to be beaten up or anything to happen whilst with the baby.

This worries me too as I often push around the park. Anyone got any details, like what time it happened and where? I feel like I might need to be more careful.
