my moving house saga...

i don't know what it is that appeals about the queenslander

Cos they're great and the QLD equivalent of living in London and wanting to live in a Georgian/Edwardian conversion place :D

think proximity to fav pub

That'll be at least 1km in any given direction. Aussie urban/suburban planning leaves a lot to be desired in positioning services near housing without needing some kind of transport...

There is no 'city' in Nth Qld

Apart from Cairnes, obv...

yea!!

got the phone/broadband/ electric put on today, got the fencing in place for the dog and the cleaners from the estate agents have been in and polished the polished floors! all the walls are wood pananled with fancy stuff on the ceiling etc/cornices....think 1920's art deco.

and the gardeners coming tomorrow (courtesy of the agents) to tidy up. got my bond money sorted and rent in advance and signed off on. its all looking great, i don't know why i had misgivings

its an awesome house with sooo much character! kitchen, huge laundry,a bathroom totally mirrored on every wall apart from a mosaic of broken mirrors and silver sprayed sea shells on one with a HUGE walk in shower then a room with no windows other than a port hole shaped skylight that will be the comp room/snug inbetween the kitchen and dining room. and then a huge windows all round /curved covered entrance/porch about 12' by 10'! and very high ceilings.

then a room i will use as a living room. it has 3 metre long casememnt windows on 2 walls. the same goes for the two bedrooms. then between my bedroom and the bath room is a huge 'dressing room'/spare room that leads into the bathroom.

add a garage and a car port, huge mango trees+ and lovely period curved front path and step to the front door !

so comiing from my current 120 year old miners queensland cottage its huge

and theres still only me and my 12.5 daughter although the boys (15,17, 22+ daughter in law) need and will take full advantage of a base in town too

they will still live out out here for now in there dads large home, mr ice doesn't really want to move....he has a very long term , no hassle rental of a 5 bedroomed home on 13 acres where the landlords love him and don''t bother him. it would be nice if we could have both/ but i know he'll miss the boys if they choose to stay more and more at mine. however i reckon they'll just stay when they have someting on and its good for them to have the choice eh? and its also nice for the family to have his property as an alternitave too. space to ride/drive/ barns to store stuff and mend stuff and security. this i think will be a 'play it by ear thing' its only 1/2 an hour travel....

so its allll good

kyser. it is literally 100m from the beach/pub and its a good beach for me, lots going on. a jetty for decent fishing, tai chi at 6am , band aftrenoons, triathlons, swimming, out riggers, drugs, clubs and cycle paths galore at the top of the beach and all around town etc....and kyser :)i can stumble to my 10 years 'local' pub in about 1 minute :p and no transport is neccessary for me, its only about 10k from one end of the bay to t'other. you can walk every where which is a real bonus to me. and to get to walk the beach early morn and late evenings is the icing on the cake. not to mention a festival of something or other almost every week. bands, multicultural, naidoc, yagubi, whale, seafood, drama, arts.....

this is a university (USQ) town , a tafe (adult education) and plenty of opportunity for arm chair travel as its a to priority for back packers destination being one ferry ride to fraser island.

so happy happy joy joy ;) there is so much to do here workwise and otherwise. i have just finished a qualification that more or less guarantees a good work/promotion + heaps of opportunity for more training...perhaps even uni!

so all in all what i was looking for i'll post some pics when i'm in , which will be monday.....ish

but anyway...what i wanted to say was that i am now in in the situation with a bigger place thats not in the middle of nowhere and on the tourist route so anyone urban who asks and who passes the 'test';) is more than willing to use my place as a place to stay/base ..easy going, friendly, what you see is what you get but if you want to visit please do :) its just gonna cost yer ticket, go in on food/drink/tourist stuff and you can even get a plane direct into hervey bay these days.

imo best time to visit here. weather wise are april to october . for those that don't like it too hot and want to enjoy the whale festival/watching.

if you like it hot then november to march. you can use my place as home/base and perhaps we can maybe sort a vehicle too. so all you need is air fare, touristy stuff, go in with me on food/drink/ drugs.

its a 3.5 hour drive to brisbane,

so there you have it just pm me if you are planning a visit. fwiw i will be in this situation for a long time so no pressure/haste.

xx

OMG! Last time we were there we took the trip out to Fraser with the in-laws!

Awesome place too!

If we're visiting the in-laws at home we'll try and get out to say hi...atm the trip is NZ, Cairns, Sunshine Coast, Byron, home...

The house sounds really wonderful!

I know roughly whereabouts you must be - I spent 3 months in the Airlie Beach area (over 20 years ago now) and I remember going round a sugar factory in Bundaberg. The sea and the Islands are so beautiful in Qld. Nice memories :)
