which then leads us back to the comparative illustration of the whole moblie phones being a danger to the bourgious petit enfants, n'est pas?

I'm a bit sceptical about your Trickle-Down Theory of Irrational Fear, tbh.

it's quite well documented tbh... it's called a moral panic.

fabricated out of nothing a 'problem' is invented a 'solution' is proposed the 'problem' is resolved but nothing has infact been done...

I know what a moral panic is. I'm just sceptical that it has to start with the middle classes then spread to the working class.

I think 'moral panic' isn't the right word for the mobile phone thing anyway, the take-up is too small.

Yeah, I wasn't under the impression that the mobile masts thing was a particularly liberal middle class issue. Like it matters who's into it anyway - it's equally bunk no matter who your daddy is.

i think it is a combination of fear over what might happen like the old powerlines illness panics or the 1920's fear of telephones and radios being the devils toys rehashed for the modern age. or the 1930's cinema is promoting negriod tendancies and courption of the young fears.

It seems to be that these things pop up every time a new technology appears on the scene that people wish to make up scarmongering stories to demonise it's use in order to justify whatever agenda they have at the time, be it xtain control or in this threads case the misdirect anti capitalist stance.

they seem to reach their peak when the middle classes adopt these hookum facts as truth...

And when the Daily Mail runs a bollocks story like vaccines/powerlines/mobiles/Albanians et al give you cancer.

It would be interestging to see just how many Moral Panics have originated in modern times from the DM I reckon it is probably a fairly large number.

Well that's that then. And they all lived happily (if grumpily ) ever after.:)

IIRC the middle classes, and those who aspire to be middle class.

It makes me angry to think of all the babies who have been infected (and some who've died) by easily preventable diseases because of the DM's championing of the non science of the vaccine = Autism bollocks.

Don't forget the famous headlines of the past as well:

Hurrah for the Blackshirts (Circa 1930's

Stem this tide of alien filth (Circa 1900)

This has been a very funny thread. I love the thought of Cantsin getting into a jam and then going to make marmalade.

Respect to the 30 old women!
