My Fair Lady (1964 film)

Yes, I read somewhere that her singing voice wasnt that strong.

Apparently Julie Andrews had hoped to play that role on film as she had did the original stage musical. Julie Andrews has a good singing voice but now that Audrey has made the role hers you couldnt imagine anyone else playing it.

Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison originated the parts on the stage but when it came to the film the producers had to chose between them as the studio did not want both of them.

They were given the choice between Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn and Julie Andrews and Cary Grant. They went for the former.

People in the industry were quite shocked by the decision and Disney then re-thought their casting of Mary Poppins i.e. casting Julie Andrews, who as well as receiving critical acclaim for that role it also led to her being cast as Maria in "The Sound of Music"

Marni Nixon sang the part of Eliza in the movie, as well as dubbing Deborah Kerr in "The King and I"

Oh - and as electrogirl said - she also sang Maria in "West Side Story". And she also appeared as a nun in "The Sound of Music"
